Ill or did I just over do it?
Strangest thing happened to me this weekend; I went with my co-worker to watch the fireworks show on the 4th and promised my mother I would come to visit her on the 5th. So I planned on leaving at 4am Saturday to head to her house which is just a little over 40 miles away. Well got back from the show at 10:30pm and was unable to go to bed just tossed and turned until about 3am even though I had been up already up for 18+ hours I decided to go ahead and ride out which was quite a mental challenge but made it no problems. Few Hours after arriving at my mom’s I became violently ill and sleeping for almost exactly 24 hours. What gives I have done 100 miles no problems or was it just stupid to ride after being up all night.

when you overdo things or get in a state of overreaching, your body will put you on your ass with flu like symptoms. If you got these symptoms as if you had the flu (including nausea and loss of appetite), most likely that was it, but if you actually started vomiting and convulsing, I would look to other causes...like what you ate at the fourth of july party. You might have been allergic to something and not been aware of it.
Congrats on the killer milage that day.
GOOD LUCK!

No lots of water and gatorade, infact during and after the ride went lots and color seemed normal, probably drank 3-4 bottles.

Guessing that you were normally healthy and didn't eat/drink any bad stuff
your body can become overstressed and go into a "fight or flight" mode dumping
huge amounts of adrenaline that MUST be burned off before the body can rest
only to crash when the adrenaline is consumed just as you did sleeping for a
day or more.
To much adrenaline when you're not used to it will make you very sick if you
just stop or slow down to quick. Some call it "hitting the wall" when they want
to stop......and can't.

I will also add that I rode 20 miles in the heat of the day earlier that same day scoping out a good fireworks watching spot. BTW carfree to such a huge event was the best, I was home probably before most people were able to walk to their cars.

You probably did too much with too little rest. Our bodies can do amazing things, and alot of it, but they require plenty of rest and nutrients. It seems like the only time I ever get sick is when I've deprived myself of sleep and been very active. I'm generally very active, but try to sleep plenty, and have no problems.
At least you're feeling better now!

Mystery solved it must be viral because I had a relapse of it at work, and had to leave early. Nothing like biking home in a 90 degree head wind feeling like I am going to puke. Picked up some wonton soup and anti nausea liquid on the way home, going to try and sleep this off, wish me luck.

If you get into Randonneuring you'll ride days with little or no sleep. 100 miles without sleep isn't overdoing it.
Chances are you had the flu.

Although he has said he had a relapse, I don't think this is a very fair comparison. Just because they do it, doesn't mean everyone can do it. The OP's body may react very differently than mine or yours after a lack of sleep. My old girlfriend would get violently ill for a day if she stayed up all night, while I am just fine, if a little tired.

We.
And yes, everyone reacts differently, but I think most people can pull all-nighters ... I've been a student most of my life (and a Randonneur for the last 8 years), and I've seen thousands of people do a lot on no sleep at all.

All-nighters never used to bother me, but now when I work a double shift (3PM to 7AM) I feel out of sorts for two days. However, a long bike ride will usually revive me rather than make me more tired. I love riding home from work after those all-night shifts. The same old commute seems so different at dawn instead of late at night.

It's possible to go on little or no sleep for a while, but it's not possible to do that indefinitely. In university, I could do the occasional all-nighter, but the next night I needed a lot more sleep. These days, I notice right away if I'm not getting enough sleep.
