Most Popular Cog Size
I would guess that 17t cogs are used on the streets more than any other sizes. Over the years, I've purchased more 17t cogs than any other size.
That's just my thought.

I range from 16-18, depending on the day. 18 only for polo nights or spinning work. 16-17 daily use depending on my mood/weather and the 16 sees some sprinting days and long rides but mostly on 17 as you guessed. I have the 18/17 on one wheel and 16 on the other wheel. more important than just my cog is that I'm running usually a 47chainring but have gone as much as 49 and as low as 42 on the street. I guess I've switched around quite a bit

I use a 17t for those skiddzzzz mannnnnnnn.. and cause it game me near 70 gear inches with a 44t chain ring. I like it, my next bike will be 46x17, although ideally 45x17 cause then I could have 34 skid patches.

I would like to see what size chainring people run w/ these cogs...I run 48/17 and I almost dislike how short the gear is

I think a lot of people buy the 17T because of the number of skid patches possible (as 17 is prime).
Personally, I use a 16T for city riding, 18T for spinning, and 14/15T if I do a race or alleycat.
This thread is kind of pointless though, as people who don't buy for the skid-patches are just buying what gives them a good gear-inch calculation, which is different for every person.

I completely agree. I could have asked what's the most popular frame size or chainring size.
