This morning it was -3 (26f?) with a wind from the East making it feel even colder (I don't know what the windchill factor was, but my ears were as frozen as my water bottle). After a spot of avoiding the black ice on the road (luckily it's been pretty dry of late ) I cut off onto my newly discovered woodland bridleway for two or three miles. Surprisingly I found the off-road riding easier than normal; much of the loose gravel had frozen together, frozen grass was less slippy under my semi-slicks than wet grass, the only problem I noticed was that of having my wheel re-directed down frozen ruts rather than slipping in the mud.

What do other people find? Is there anything I need to be extra careful of?
