Peninsula riding clubs

Hello all,

I recently moved to the peninsula (Mountain View) and am looking for a riding club. It seems that every other rider I see is sporting a Webcore jersey, but after checking their website it seems that most of their rides are in the middle of the day. This would be great if I was a pro rider or just independently wealth and didn't work, but I am neither...

So what are some of the other local clubs that have evening rides?

Thanks

Western Wheelers might work for you.

This page has all the clubs in the area:

Webcor/AltoVelo is more of a racing/training club.
Western Wheelers is more of a recreational/social club.
Probably not much membership overlap between the two.

Penn Velo is great too ... although you'd have to drive a little north to Redwood City. I like their pack ride that they do on Sat mornings, 8 am, corner of 92 and Canada.

I wouldn't say any of the Alto Velo/Webcor rides are mid-day, although they may finish mid-day after the requisite cool-down and coffee at Peet's!

a.) There are two weekend rides:
- B-Ride on Saturday @0900 with an 0910 departure
- A-Ride on Sunday @0900 with an 0910 departure
b.) Two weekday rides:
- Dave Stahl's Wednesday @0900 with an 0910 departure
- Egan Ride on Tuesdays @1800.
c.) It's Webcor, not Webcore. (As an Alto Velo member and B-ride leader I had to point that out. )

The only true midday rides I know of are the Mon-Fri "Noon Ride" and the Tues/Thurs rides out of the Great America overflow parking lot.

Yes, Alto Velo (that is actually the club name, Webcor is the main sponsor) is one of the larger clubs in the area. With over 400 members, it's quite likely you are going to see one of us somewhere

There are actually several other fine clubs in the area. Western Wheelers is a pretty large club with rides of some level on every day of the week, morning, noon, and evening. You might also check out Almaden Cycle Touring Club ("ACTC"); it is more south bay/San Jose territory but they are a fairly large club too with lots of rides of different ability levels.

There are a couple of triathlon clubs around, too, if that's your thing...SVTC is probably the most well-known but there are others as well.

Also many of the local bike shops have organized rides. Ask around and you will surely find something that suits your schedule.

At any rate: I would strongly recommend checking out several different club's rides before joining up with anyone. All of the clubs around that I know of welcome guests on their published rides (they had better!), and you will surely be able to find a club and riding buddies with similar interests. Take your time....
