Hanging Storage Idea
For the benefit of other space-challenged members, here's what I came up with for storing a bike when there's no space by the wall and the ceiling's too high. I would have just used a 2x4, but didn't happen to have one around. I didn't use chains because rust is a problem here.
If I'd realized it was going to end up this close to the ceiling, I would have made two posts fastened to the ceiling with T's, and put the bike hooks on the posts.

That's nice. Plan A was something like that, using pulleys and ropes that I had around. But when I got it all together, the bike couldn't be hoisted high enough to clear our heads, so it was on to plan B.
I like the one rope through all the pulleys idea. I wouldn't have thought of that.
