BF velodrome day?

We've already had a meet n' greet at the Superdrome, complete with kamikaze bugs
but I was thinking this time it might be fun to have a group of us go out and
take the Developmental Track class at the Superdrome.
The class is $25, they provide bikes (bring your own pedals or use clips n' straps) and
half a day's worth of lessons. The day ends with a friendly race or two ( 1k and 2k race
last time I was there).

The next class is July 26th which is a little short on notice
but they have classes in Aug, Sept and Oct. (dates to be announced).

More info here:
https://www.superdrome.com/classes.htm

So, anybody interested?

marty

I'd also be willing to talk to the Staff at the Superdrome about a
class outside of the normal schedule if possible.

I'd be interested, if it was in the afternoon or early evening so I could still get my normal riding in.

Ive taken the development class. My advice- make sure not to ride any slower than 13mph when
on the steep sections of the track. You could have a pedal strike on your right pedal.

Have fun!

if enough folks show up I'd take the class again just for the fun of it.
I heard 12mph is the magic number, doesn't sound too difficult until you're
up on the banks at the end of the 2k race (and you're 20 years older than the
next oldest rider).

Probably 12mph is good with clipless. I had on big pedals and straps- they stick out further.

I took the class at the Alkek velodrome a couple of years ago and had a blast. I have not ridden on the track much since but keep meaning to head that way. I think I might be able to make it up to Frisco from Houston for a day of the steep banking. August or September would be best for me but don't worry about it if you want to do it earlier. If we could get enough people to fill out a class that would be a lot of fun.

I would love to go out there, but am racing on the 26th. If we plan for next month, I'm in.

I was already planning to go there (after removing riding the Goatneck from my calendar). It'll be good to ride with any of the local BFers.

Not sure about the 26th, but I would be up for an August or September date. Heck, I'm up for the 26th if the timing is right with life's "other" deals.

After all, someone needs to be the lapper......................

I've been trading some email with the person who does the training at the Superdrome.
we probably can schedule a 'semi private' class if we have enough folks.
I'll put it all together but I need commitments from folks that they're actually going
to show up.
And we are open to suggestions for dates, times etc.
I think the 26th is too soon. I'd also opt out for Aug 23rd since thats HHH.

let me know what y'all think.

Marty

not sure yet, they don't schedule that far out.
Saturday afternoon might be a bit of a challenge since that's the time
for the youth development program.

I have to congratulate the Superdrome for providing such a wonderful experience yesterday. There were 15 in the Developmental class, apparently far more than what was anticipated. I have to admit that it is quite intimidating to walk through the tunnel into the middle of the velodrome and look at the 44 degree banked corners...they just looked like walls! The training program is well thought out and gradually introduces people to fixed gear riding and reduces -not eliminates- the intimidation factor of the sreep corners. Many, many thanks to Doug for his excellent instruction, to Kevinn for his candidness about the realities of velodrome riding, and also to Sharon? (I can't remember her name) but she was leading the group I was in.

If anyone has the time, this is a well worth event to participate in, and besides, it was just a hoot to go fast on a track like that. Thanks to all who made this happen.
