old steel frame... Crome?

Daydreaming on the way into work today, I was thinking what if I got my old steel frame sandblasted and then I painted it. But I couldnt figure out what color to paint it. And since I was watching American Chopper the other night the idea came to me. Send it out to be cromed!!! I dont think im going to do it, but what do you guys think about the idea? Ever wanted a crome mountain bike?

Bikes: Lots

A lot of BMX bikes are Chrome. If you can find a place locally to get it done it'd definately make a purty bike!

Me, I prefer Powder Coat. A flat black or a deep red.

Bikes: Too many bikes, too little time to ride

i would think it would make the frame significantly heavier than it already is (being steel i mean). but it definately beats a paint job or powder coating. it's basically anodizing cept dye isn't used to color the oxide layer, and you are using a Cr based alloy as the anode.

Actually, chrome plating is nothing like anodizing, and it's likely no heavier than a good paint job.

Bikes: Yes!

I've thought about chroming my commuting/touring bike so I didn't have to worry about scratches and chips.

I thinks it's a good idea, although that exciting or original in my opinion.

I say go for it.

Anyone that would worry about the "extra weight" seriously needs to lighten up!!! (not literally)

My childhood BMX was chrome, very sweet. Go for it!
