Chain Ring Teething Problems

Hey

I just had a new chain ring and chain fitted today and while riding home I noticed how noisy the new set up was! Im am now riding a 48T/16T with an SRAM SS Compatible 1/8 Chain (but it was pretty cheap).

My previous setup was ultra quiet so I'm a bit worried....

Any Ideas?

Are you using your old rear cog? Might just be from the different wear they've experienced, could settle in with a little wear, (everything should be changed together - ideally).

That's just a guess, can't thnik what else could be making it, haven't adjusted chainline or anything have you?

Yeah I stuck with the same sproket (was still in top condition).

I actually took it to a bike shop so any adjustments should be sound (they're pretty reputable)

Sounds like what happened to me. I switched my gearing from 52/14 to 46/16. I changed the crankset and BB myself, but I took it to the LBS to change the cog. After they switched my cog, I started 'hearing' my chain moving. Either I've gotten used to hearing it, or it stopped being noisy, I don't know...

Actually, no. If you maintain your chain and change it before it shows excessive wear, your cog should last quite awhile. And a chain ring should last almost indefinitely.

Try a bit more slack in your chain.
