Saab

I know now that I will never buy a Saab. They may be great autos, but I'll never know.

I didn't think I could be annoyed more than last year's "Born from Jets" bs, but I was OH SO wrong.

Recycle this, Saab.

Don't worry about it, with all the doping I'm sure Saab will pull their advertizing and VS probably won't even carry the tour next year.

None the less is anyone threading the "Fly to the Finish" words?, I'm trying to follow them somewhat but have missed a few of the broadcast ones, Bicycling Mag's are always different than what i see on the broadcasts. Not that I care to win the car, but a new Cervelo on my wall would be sweet.

From the looks of things, Saab won't be a sponsor next year because they'll be out of business, or close to it.

For the perfect balance of fuel efficiency and performance, we take energy from exhaust and recycle it.

Does any of the chase even use Saab or have they any time in recent history? I actually never recall them being used as a chase car here in the states...in recent history but last time I sat road side was when Ford Moror Company had the Mercury thing going on....meh that musta been a Tour DuPont I guess.

Must say Saab has managed to have one of the most annoying ad campaigns past three tours I've tried to watch. And they so aren't 'born of jets' or whatever they like to say.

I'd just assume have Volvo run annoying ads....or hey screw it why not have Ikea sponser Vs. coverage....at least I may have some use for their shleping products...sorrry the 93 turbo is so late ....80's....yet another reason GM will eventually go belly up.

they deserve it as well for killing the electric car...not that I use 4 wheels but I digress.

Go Garmin/Chipolte!

Maybe if they had 3 or 4 ads, it wouldn't be so annoying. They should have one running a cave man off the road. That wouldn't get old in 3 weeks.

I can't imagine having to defend my country with jets built by Saab. I mean, can you imagine having to hold off somebody serious like the Russians with a bunch of Saabs?

It would be like holding back jack-booted storm troopers with a bunch of Birkenstocks

"Born From Jets"

"Bored of Jets" more like. They got tired of jets and thought they'd try their hand at making cars for a while.

I have to say that there is a trend on Versus' coverage of the Tour in general... Do they give a significant discount to their advertisers for only having one advertisement in the rotation?

It seems like each advertiser runs the same advertisement over and over and over. Even the LBS ad that runs locally (fortunately it usually seems to run over the ad for the male enhancement) is the same one over and over and varies only a little from year to year.

I really love my DVR!!! I only hear the ads when I am in the other room and leave the commercials running until I get back in front of the TV, or watch them in fast forward.

Of course it could just be the nature of the event as well. Honestly, what other event do you watch for 20+ hours a week for three weeks straight every year? That would be the only fair comparison.

I know I watch more hours of the Tour every year than my favorite sitcom... and the tour is concentrated into 3 weeks instead of 1 night per week for 16 weeks or so.

We should thank Saab for spending countless amounts of cash in sponsorship & contest. I could never afford a Saab myself. With advertisers and sponsorships dropping back, we should really be grateful for companies like Saab.

The only thing about the car they are advertising, it only gets 17 MPG in the city, and that's pretty bad. Look at the small print

Saab is a car that can't make up it's mind what it wants to be. Take equal parts of BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Honda, GMC and Cadillac and mix them all together and you get an atrocity like this:

Yes, that's why their "recycling" advert is pure b/s, and makes me a bit ill. Everyone is trying to capitalize on the "green" theme now - regardless of the facts.

The fact is that a high performance, European, turbocharged sports sedan is certainly not green. With it's SUV like 17 mpg, it's more of a gas guzzler than anything.

I was thinking last night how much I actually do appreciate Saab for sponsoring the broadcast.

...and like the Grinch on Christmas day, I've had a change of heart.

I did like the old Saab I drove around. It always started and it had character.

so in appreciation of Saab's sponsorship of the Tour, I will cease making jokes about their jets, and remember the things I liked about the Saab I had.

So thanks Saab for sponsoring the Tour again this year!

It's not BS. They do precisely what they say they do: recycle energy from the exhaust and turn it into power. Energy is energy, and by capturing heat that would normally be lost out the exhaust and using that energy to compress air for induction.

At no point do they say "this car is green" or "it gets great mileage" or anything other than what it is. It's a performance sedan that offers good power with a smaller two liter engine. And the 2.0T gets 27mpg highway, so it's not exactly a Hummer.

I'm not really even a Saab guy, but I find the general vitriol towards one of the main reasons you get to watch cycling on TV a little unfounded.

I love Saabs. My 9000 CS-Turbo was a great car, same with the '88 900S that was my first auto.

Saving up for a 9-5 Aero right now.

All you Saab haters can recycle my ass gas.
