U.S. National Bike Bill Up For Consideration | Let Your Voice Be Heard

It took me two minutes to send an email to my Senator...

League of American Bicyclist Senator Contact Page

House Congressional Resolution 305 (H.CON.RES. 305), dubbed the National Bike Bill sponsored by Representative Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), which passed the House of Representatives on May 21, 2008, is scheduled to be considered by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, this Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 10am. Please take a moment to contact your Senator on the Committee to thank them in advance for their support of this resolution which recognizes the importance of bicycling in transportation and recreation.

It calls on Congress to establish national target levels for increased bicycle use and intermodal travel. The National Bike Bill supports providing federal incentives for adoption of State and local “complete streets” policies, expanding funding for Federal transportation programs that support non-motorized infrastructure and safety enhancements, as well as developing coordinated interstate bicycle routes and bike-friendly land protections, and much more. Lastly, the legislation re-establishes the Interagency Bicycle Task Force, launched after the 1994 report to Congress.

True. I figured if my rep gets a bunch of emails from normally politically uninterested constituents she (or he) would think twice about crossing cyclists the next time or would listen just a little more closely to the League of American Bicyclists.

It is a bill that says we should pass some laws some day that actually help cyclists. It would actually involve our good for nothing Congressmen doing some work to actually pass those laws. It is much easier to waste their time with fluff like this.

Congress has passed it. It's up to the Senate now.

I just emailed my Senator. I hope everyone else does as well.
