AUGH!! I hate driving. Should have biked!
(the constant refrain, actually).
I had an eye appointment this morning. It was not very far away, just a 10 minute drive, or a reasonable ride. Feeling lazy this morning (I was up late), I decided to drive. WRONG.
There is only one route east to west on this end of the city, Glenmore Trail. There are only 2 on-ramps available for westbound Glenmore. One of them was closed today. Guess where the sign for said closure was. If you said "right on the ramp itself, two blocks past the last available detour point," you win a cookie! So all the traffic from 14th Street (which feeds onto that ramp and goes NOWHERE ELSE) had to go east on Glenmore, then most of them tried to loop around on the next exit, which was backed right up of course because it is a much smaller road and only has one lane for turns onto Glenmore.
There was nothing on the city's traffic information website. The two radio stations which advertise traffic updates said nothing about it. I went into that stupid thing BLIND. And now I have to wait two more weeks for a rescheduled appointment, with glasses that are repidly deteriorating - the anti-glare coating is coming off - and I won't be able to get my cycling sunglasses in time for the century ride I'm signed up for at the end of the month.
If I'd ridden my bike, none of that would have happened

Imperial century. I did my first metric on July 27 
- that's when I found out my existing sunglasses are really not good enough for a full day on the bike.
I'm actually going to go buy the cycling frames this week so I can have the prescription inserts done as soon as I get the new measurements. My day to day glasses will just have to do.

Planning? What's that? Signposting? Are we supposed to do that?

I'm beginning to think he may be right. That 14th St ramp is closed till Monday. The ramps from Deerfoot Trail (aka Highway 2) onto 16th Avenue North (aka the freaking Trans-Canada Highway!) are also all closed until Monday. Today's traffic was HORRIFYING, and tomorrow's will be worse. Add in a moderate heat wave and I'm seriously afraid to leave the house...
