Ididasport extreme mtb challenge.

Anyone with a link to the Ididasport site? I can't seem to find anything but mentions at Ice Bike. And a search at Dog Pile gave old links to old articles, no Ididasport site.

Any ideas when and where? Cost? Prep and training?

try this

The original event no longer exists, but it has morphed into this...

https://www.alaskaultrasport.com/

My favorite part of the website is the written accounts from previous racers.

They typically as history is written do not put up a website until the race actually occurs, then they take it down shortly afterwards.

This link will not only link you to the Iditasport Extreme site, but makes for very interesting reading on probably one of the greatest extreme racers in North America. John Stamstad

I've seen video footage of this guy racing the Iditasport race in 1995 and it's amazing how he can keep going on so little. He must have incredible natural talent and being a little bit crazy can't hurt either!

I believe the rims are Snow Cats. I would love to pick up a set. They started out as two rims welded together, and they took the center rims out. Since the inception they have evolved into the above, they offer a wide footprint, you use regular 26x 1.5, or the like. They also reccomend not inflating them to a full psi.

Th above is the Icebike sight on the rims. Really cool stuff.

There are two events:

The Susitna: https://www.susitna100.com/

And the Iditabike: https://www.alaskaultrasport.com/

The Susitna follows a similar route to the Iditabike but is merely a century ride. With the Iditabike you have a choice of a 350 mile route or a 1100 mile route.

The Iditabike costs $600.00 (US, I'm guessing) and is limited to 50 riders with preference given to those who have completed the Susitna. The Susitna costs $225 US with an additional $150 Evacuation fee.

The Susitna went February 14th, and the Iditabike went February 28th (same weekend I did my February century! ) I'm not sure about the Iditabike, but I think the participants on the Susitna didn't have great weather for it, to me anyway, it looked like it was way too warm. The ice would have been dangerous with a lot of weak spots and overflow, but it looks like all the cyclists and skiers made it! It looks like the longest time a cyclist spent out there was just under 26 hours, and the shortest was 18.5 hours.

Both sites will provide you with training info and so on.

I'd like to do the Susitna! I'm not sure about the Iditabike yet. I think I'd prefer to do the Susitna first and see how that felt.
