Identifying Parts and Manufacturers
IS there an easy way to identify part #'s and manufacturers by the info stamped on them? For example, I just bought a crank arm from my LBS but failed to find out any info about it (it didn't come bagged or anything, and I forgot to ask before I walked out). IS there a series of stamped codes that I could find out about. I just paid $15 for this crank arm but know nothing about it. Yes, I could just ask the LBS next time, or even go back this time, but what about the parts on my current bike that I got used, or the other parts bikes I salvage from the roadside?

You can always try "Google" and see if it comes up in some catalog...
You can usually get the crank arm length cause that is usually stamped behind it. As far as the mfgr or part number, who knows, that might just be a function of that part. mfgr, unless you can see a sticker on it.

if there's no manufacturers name on the crank, it didn't come in a bag and cost $15 then it can be anything you want it to be.....
