Shoe Sizing Between Brands

Can anyone share experiences with shoe sizing? I have some old 46 Specialized Rockhoppers (like 8 years old) that fit. but have seen better days. I wear a 47wide Shimano road shoe. I tried another 46 Specialized and it fit a full size smaller than my old 46 Specialized and I ordered some Lake's last week in 47 wide and the things are too big. My local shop is very small and there's no place in any reasonable distance from here to go trying on cycling shoes, so I'm hoping I can find shoes for a somewhat, but not terribly wide size 12US. My Shimano road shoes are good, but not quite perfect which is why I was looking at other brands.

EDIT: I see this thread which has most of the brands except Specialized.
