Looking for the lightest, yet affordable (under $100) 700c rim for custom wheelbuild.
Hello,
So, I am about to build a rear track wheel up either 28 or 32 hole, 700c clincher. What is the lightest, reliable, and affordable rim (under 100$) that you would recommend for building this wheel up? Looks are not important, just weight, price, and quality. I was thinking Mavic Open Pros. Am I right or wrong, and please tell me why.

Open Pro is the tried and true.
If you want to go even lighter, IRD Cadences / KinLin XR-200 / Speedcific Niobium 19 (all are the same rim under different brands) can be had for $40 a pop @ 390g. Single-eyeletted.

I'm getting a set of 32H Open Pros built for my fixed. Had a set back when I road raced, light, durable. Was able to hold my own with (most) guys I rode with who all had fancy ksyriums. I'd go with a 32H for a rear wheel-unless your REALLY light or it's a race only wheelset. 28H are pretty delicate.

well didnt you forget STRONG as well .`?
i had a head on a few days ago . i was cycling at about 45kph ,sMack right into a city / commuter cyclist . i wont go into detail .. but on impact my Gp4's held strong , just blew my continental sprinter to **** and i had about 8bar in the tire at the time . tire + gp4 = strong and saved my wheels .. my body on the otherhand hurts like H*ll

Look for a generically ****ty single walled rim from any of the low-end manufacturers. The rim will be utter shyte but it will be light.

Mavic Open Pros all the way! You can't go wrong. There is a reason why most European road pros use open pros on their training bikes.
