Making a Mountain Bike an 'Urban/Bike Path' Bike
I'm in need of a 'bike path' bike, but I really don't want the very relaxed position or suspended seatpost bikes that seem to be the norm for this. Also, I want a bike I can take on gravel/hard packed trails as well. So, I would like front suspension and not too skinny tires
I'm toying with the idea of taking something like a Trek 6 series mountain bike and putting some bike path style tires on it. This should allow a decent dual-purpose machine. My only concern was that the tire diameter might be too short, but I probably won't be riding on actual paths too fast as I'll be cruising with my wife.
Anyone see any major flaws with this? I already have a very nice road bike and a Raleigh 29er for my serious offroading adventures. And no, I'm not putting hybrid tires on the 29er.

What does that mean? Do you mean the over-all gearing being too low? You won't be changing the diameter of the rim, just the cross section of the tire, and the total change will be small...less than the equivalent of one gear.
