Looking at a used Cannondale Capo for $500
Talking to guy off of craigslist about his year old 2007 mostly stock Capo (he changed out the pedals for SPDs) in naked aluminum. He's asking $500. Is this worth it? I'm new to SS/Fixed but would like to try it. The lightness of the frame is what's really attracting me, but I'm wondering if I can build up a comparable fixie for less money that weighs about the same. I'm not looking to join the hip fixie cult--I just want a lighter faster simpler bike for commuting and maybe cruising around (right now I'm riding a 90's diamond back mtb with road slicks which is the perfect theft-resistant beater, but it ways a ton and carries that Muffy stigma).
After reading so much about it, I really want to try fixed riding and this Capo seemed like a nice entry that still had the light frame from a trusted bike maker incase riding fixed just wasn't my thing. What do you all think?

IMO it's a pretty good bike, whether or not it's worth $500 is really up to you. Some would pay it while others wouldn't. I've owned a Cannondale (R600 i know shady past i had) but they make really great bikes and for $500 it's not bad. I'd say maybe offer $475?

give the frame a good lookover, make sure there's no dents anywhere.
$500 is a fair price, i say start at offering $400.
look at it this way, try finding a used Pista for around $500.

I have a 2008 Capo and love it. I would agree to offer $400. Only down side to Cannondale is that they don't often use the best components. However you can slowly upgrade it as necessary. I have always preferred Cannondale frames for my road bikes.

I also have an '08 Capo and love it. The frame is great and I'm sure the components that come on it will serve you well, especially if you're just getting into to fixed riding. I would easily pay $500 if it's in good shape, just take it for a test ride and make sure the thing fits you well!
