Components on my bike

I need to replace a broken crankset on my schwinn super sport ultra 1. I would like to upgrade to shimano 105 cranks. can I do this? I have no problem replacing some other things if it is necessary. Imput would be helpful as quickly as possible as I would like to be on my bike and not riding my MTB 15 miles everyday.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

New bottom bracket and cranks. You can go external bottom bracket (aka 10 speed) which is the Shimano 5600 series or maybe save some cash by getting NOS Octalink (aka 9 speed) which is the 5500 series. The later is available on eBay and/or closeout.
