Mt. Hamilton Climb Video

I climbed Mt. Hamilton from the Alum Rock intersection yesterday and made a time lapse video. The bike-mounted camera takes a picture every five seconds- the battery crapped out at the turn at the base of the observatory (total time was 2 hours, 5 minutes). Here's the video:

https://gallery.me.com/thomas.barry#100088

Why? A friend of mine and I are racing in the Furnace Creek 508 next month (2X relay- Team Capybara) and we want to capture some on-bike footage of the course. This was a trial run for the camera...

Whoa, waaaay cool. That's the first one I've seen going up the hill. Thanks for sharing. That's great.

I like the concept of having a collection of still images shot at regular intervals. It's a lot less boring than a true video going from bottom to top at real climbing speed.
It seems you were racing against a UPS truck and a trash truck. Who won? I bet they didn't go to the top!
Thanks for sharing.

That's pretty cool. I am contemplating doing Mt. Hamilton for the first time this weekend, nice to get a sneak preview.

Loved it. What camera did you use that has an intervolometer?

Also, if you figure the exposure and white balance and set them you'd get less "flashing" and color jumps. Still, pretty darn cool!

Wish I could get it to work, it sounds neat.

I'd also be interested to know which camera has such a time-lapse feature.

The camera is the Helmet Hero from a company called GoPro. I mounted it to my handlebar using their bike mount kit (sold separately). As an amateur photographer it frustrates me that you can't set the exposure or white balance. It'd be nice too if you could set the time-lapse interval to something other than five seconds. The advantages of this camera are its size (tiny) and its (limited) time-lapse feature, something none of the other cameras we looked at had.

Nice. That's the camera SweetNSourBkr used to record the descent down Hamilton.
