It takes a week to learn. Another month to learn how to get on the first time you try. Start on very flat pavement along a chain-link fence. Soon, you can commute. Easier than a two-wheeled machine sometimes. You can carry the unicycle where carrying a bike is more difficult. The best part is everyone asks about it. Some want to try. (wrap seat with a towel to protect it.) It opens up communication with strangers, a very good thing in this day and age.
Have fun!

That is so true about the meeting strangers and stuff.
I have been unicycling for three years and ever since people will stop and ask or honk, and again yes some ask to try it .
My friends will be going down the street with me and cant understand why everyones staring. It gets pretty funny too. Sometimes I think I should carry a camara so I can get pictures of the faces.

Yeah i agree with the other responses, iv been unicyclin for a year and a half now and you do get alot of attention! i mean when i tell people i can ride 4 or five miles , they are so surprised, some people cant even do that on a bike! But please anyone who is reading this please e-mail me and tell me a beter seat that i should buy, cuz right now i have a "savage" the generic, and boy that thing hurts my legs....so someone please e-mailme if they have a comfortable seat i could look into buyin... like tell me if yours hurts and il look into buyin it....its not the money issues its the comfort!

This is cool! Keep it up, show 'em you can do whatever you want in this country.

if you don`t go off road or at least do trials.....you haven`t ridden yet, as far as i`m concerd.
uniing on the street is just too easy......going off road is a different story, oh and euu....you gotta drop stuf too.
it`s slower than biking, but it`s a lot more technical.....i think everybody should at least try it.
gnein
that is all

I was thinking that the contortions that your body must go thru to keep its balance would have to look something like what people look like riding a mechanical bull.

nah...it`s more like when you`re learning to ride, you know your arms are always waving around, you can't just ride nonchalantely.

You've gotta see...
The trails that John Foss show on his web page are awsome! I just picked up the rest of what I needed to put together a 26" Yuni from unicycle.com. They also have some videos that are incredible.
