How bad will my toe overlap be?
Yesterday I got hit by a car trying to beat a light crossing over two lanes of oncomming traffic and me. I didn't even see him from the other side of the van I was next too. I am extremely lucky too. Mild Concussion, bruised ribs, sprained wrist. Mashed up left hand. And a sprained ankle. When the cop was taking my statement he started telling me that I should have been on the sidewalk. So i pointed to the giant spraypainted bike on the ground he was standing on (the bike lane).
So no broken bones but a busted ass bike. The worst part is that this is how I get around. I live in the city (I know Portland is small) and work 20 miles from where I live. I was (and still am) extremely depressed and heart broken. I know it wasn't the best bike (Panasonic frame conversion) but it was my first fixed and was saving up for a new true fixed bike. I have seen so many threads and heard stories about major crashes but now I truly understand how nasty and horrible it is.

sorry to hear about the wreck. on the plus side, it looks like all that's toast is the frameset and front wheel, and that the parts can go towards a new frameset.

ouchies. i had a similar accident, but on my motorcycle. i flew over my bars and the other guys car about 20-25 feet in the air and smashed into the ground flat on my back. you'll probably be sore for a couple days, you just don't realize it cause of all the adrenaline at first.
and i'm relatively new at fixed gear riding, but those bullhorns look like they would have caused the most damage were they to come into contact with you. should cap those... otherwise they're like instant cookie-cutters.

Police are just as igorant about the law converning bicycles than most drivers. Glad you are mostly OK.

You are absolutely right. The way I read it was that our rider was trying to beat the light - but the car was trying to beat the light. My mistake.

Same thing happened to me in Chicago about two weeks back: an idiot wasn't paying attention and totally turned left into me while I clearly had the right away (as corroborated by many witnesses).
My bike died as a result, but I didn't, and it seems like I walked away with just some road rash. My left torso is just a bit tender and swollen still.
Anyway, it'll be something to laugh back at when you get a nice check from the idiot's insurance company to put into a snazzy new ride.

Too bad, that does look like a nice frame even though the build is not my cup of tea. I totally want an old japanese lightweight frame. Glad you're not badly hurt.
