Would you buy this bike for $250? I'm considering it and know nothing about pricing bikes and though I would ask for some advice.

It seems about right depending on some of the components or upgrades it has had over the years, but those suicide shifters make me wonder what your are planning to do with it.

From reviewing your other thread, you may not be pleased with the aluminum frame and the set-up for a tourist style rider.
The 434 would likely fetch that price on the auction site, maybe a little more.
I was scanning the site for a larger frame bike for similar project, (I am reviewing older super sports or sport tourers, even a superior if one could be found in my 25 or 26 frame size). Anyway found this project bike, Item number: 160295055947, and may fit your needs. The parts will interchange with little difficulty, shifters on the stem, easier to route to grip shifters, and it is possible the rear gear set maybe index compatible.
The frame appears to be the correct size, and it is my thought that the cromoly steel will provide you a smoother ride in an upright or less aggressive position.
I have a Schwinn Continental ('80), set in tourist style, with suburban bars and sprung seat, totaling different experience than my other 80 Conti set original with drops and Brooks B17. Then my Super Sport handles different yet with the cromoly frame.
You can also change the ride with 27x1-3/8 tires.

Suicide shifters? Nope those are youre run of the mill downtube shifters. Everyone should have to use them for a couple of years. When I was young thats all there was. Well shose and the ones mounted on the stem.

One caveat, the seat post is a quill type, and cannot be replaced easily. Dan the Man should loose his senior member status for confusing downtube shifters for suicide shifters.

thems aren't anything but fine shifters
my lightest bike [which is damn light, but still a tank at 10.1 lbs, can't afford LEW wheelset]
... has drilled Dura Ace downtube shifters
because they work and are the lightest way to build a shifty bike

The photo leads me to believe the bike has been meticulously maintained in all respects. This is a HUGE plus, and is worth paying extra for. The one thing I have learned by doing my own fanatical maintenance, is that bikes really respond to that kind of treatment. If it fits you, and you like it, JUMP on it, before it gets away. bk

Senior doesn't have anything to do with knowledge. Anyways, that's what I've heard people call them, what is a suicide shifter then.

How tall are you?
That's a pretty small frame size. If the bike doesn't fit it's not a good deal regardless of price.

Could you buy a new bike that works as well for your needs for $250? That's one way to look at it.

Screwdriver, that ride is very attractive. If it is a good fit and will take a minimal investment to meet your needs completely then I'd say a good deal. I always want a lower price to I would still try and barter him down but if that was the price I settled on I could be happy with that.
