Oh, then I guess I'm at 42 as well. Huh.
Haha, hitch hikers...
I wrote 42 as an answer to a question on a final exam once just because of that.

i want 2 quarq - tt and crit/rr bikes; ay, there's the rub; invest in saving watts or measuring watts? is there such a thing a TMPI (too much power information)? and there is no such thing as TMB (too many bikes)

Why do you need 2? Just get a 2 BBs and mount one on each bike. Swapping between bikes is LITERALLY a one bolt, 2 minute max process. I do that all the time

I have 4 bikes that I switch my Quarq between at least 2x a week. It is a 50 Torx and literally about 90 seconds if I have both bikes sitting there.

I found a place to do a 3 minute all-out test I think. Might try it out on Wednesday. 4 lanes, decent pavement, slightly uphill the whole way, light traffic

This is probably the best guide out there on how to build a program to train with power. Just great stuff.

Looking forward to the report. I'll probably do one of these again in a month or so when we start getting lunchtime temps below 95.

Two questions:
1. Powertap came yesterday, confused by this page as I wired everything up but still no reading or anything other than heart rate showing up. Any reason for new communtication between hub and CPU
2. Racing tomorrow on it assuming I can get it working(otherwise racing on my normal wheels), naturally I won't be able to get in any field tests. So will the numbers I get for the duration of the race be accurate enough to go on? Racing is more 'stressful' than training, so my guess is that it would be a good starting???
I appreciate any feedback on this, very excited about training w/ power especially as my season comes to a close in a few weeks.

Is this a new powertap? It sounds like the harness might be messed up. You don't have any zip-ties on the wire portions of the harness do you?
How close is the shark fin to the hub?
Are you certain the head unit is completely set in the mount? (solid-feeling click)
Regarding data from the race, it will be pretty much useless from an evaluation point of view. If it's around an hour, and you race really really hard, you might come out of it with a ballpark +/-10W FTP guess.

It is a used powertap I got from a teammate, sl wired. It didn't come w/ the shark fine but rather a slightly different reciever. He said he never had any issues w/ it. I think my best bet is to get an entirely new reciever.
For the data, tomorrow's race is in Brooklyn and generally lasts an hour and change(31miles, cat4 field). I'll keep those numbers, as it will most likely be a tough race being the final race in the cadence cup. Either way, I will do some testing on it when i get home from the race.

What did it come with, if not the shark fin? I'm looking on Saris.com and the only wired receiver they have is the shark fin.
Is there some other aftermarket receiver available?

I would assume so, I'm picking up a new receiver after work today so it shouldn't be a problem. If you look in the link I sent, i have that blocky looking thing. Not a shark fin, I found that strange that it wasn't a shark fin. In any case I'm going to pick up the shark fin one...

Ok, I see. You may have a pinched wire in your receiver cable. You can pick up a new one (as you are doing) or if you have steady hands, you can fix the damaged area. May take a little bit of time (I think each wire has only 3 or 4 copper strands that you have to re-attach), but it will save you ~$70 (that is if you can find the pinch).

Yeah, that's the older style receiver. It's your wire. Probably was ok on the original bike, but old existing damage surfaced when it moved.
Once you get the new harness, you should see if you can repair this one as a spare.

I have a problem. My power has stagnated since May. I was seeing some improvements late last season (my first) and early this season. But my average power on hills and in general has not increased in months. I've been doing hill intervals this season, and I took a minute to look back at those workouts. Here is a sample from April:
hr-0409.PNG
and from June:
hr-0627.PNG
and finally, July:
hr-0704.PNG
Notice anything? Pretty much all of my hill interval workouts this season show the same trend where I'm unable to finish the workout (e.g. all intervals in the target power range).
I'm guessing my target power range is too high? Or is this normal for folks out there doing hill repeats?
I need to figure out how to boost my power by 10-15% on climbs here in New England. Otherwise I'll continue to get dropped like a fat ass in every road race.

For me the best hill workout was 2x20's on the trainer to raise FTP.

If I have 2 races, A and B:
A was about 30 mins and 11 miles longer, but had higher average power for most durations.
B was shorter but had higher normalized power for all durations.
Can I call the two races pretty much comparable as far as performance goes?

Well, what does "performance" mean in this context? I'd say race performance would be based on results, but I'm guessing you're talking about some physiological performance.
I would do an analysis on limiters for each race and see if those are comparable.
