The drillium is clearly there to offset the weight of a bottlecage and helps maintain the balance of the frame. Totally stealth once a cage is installed, too! Race officials will never see it.

You have it all wrong. It is part of a new all-automatic left-hand drive system, wherein a cyclist riding on your left does the shifting for you via the Revershift derailer mounted on their machine. The only problem is that you must keep distance between the two bikes within 2 inches to maintain chainline, and any variances in direction from either cyclist might result in ghost shifting.

Oh, and someone has to take off the inboard pedal on one of the two bikes. But it's a small price to pay for this advancement in technology, eh?

Ghost shifting wouldn't be bad as long as the whole thing doesn't lock up and send one or the other rider sailing off into the sunset... or to the hospital.

too bad, i hate to see a bike messed up like that, especially when its one in my size! hell if you decide to toss it let me know, maybe ill try to repair it...somehow!

Seriously, I was going to strip it, keep the parts and toss the frame. I suppose it could be repaired, but I'm pretty sure its not worth it.

Besides, I like Kurt's idea. I bet I could ride close enough to prevent ghost shifting.

Drop some silver solder in the five holes, file them out, and give it another life (with a caveat about the holes, of course). That 4130 looks thick enough that the holes probably haven't compromised the tube too badly.

I feel sorry for the original owner. They must of had high hopes of flying down the road on this bike, only to give up when the seat post would not stay up and the gears were difficalt to dial in. good find anyhow!
