Since switching from clips to clipless (SPD) last spring, I'll never go back.
Once I got accustomed to them, I could unclip *much* quicker than I could pull out of clips.
That has saved me from at least one slow-speed fall already.

It gives a whole new meaning to, "The bigger they are, the harder they fall."
I can tell I am really going to like using clipless pedals though. Anything would be an improvement over the shoes I was riding in, but even in just a few miles, it was clear clipless was a good move for me. Then I fell over

HI,
Its after a couple weeks and you clip in and out without thought and your riding along day dreaming,
come up to a stop light and forget to notice the grade on the sidewalk is steep unclip on the wrong side and go down very slowly!!!!! awwwwww ahhhsshhhhoooooootttt and you laying on your back still clipped with a bike over you, and everyone wants to stop and say are you OK
...
yea I do that alot...
Thats the best one.. do it preferably in a resort area with plenty of pedestrians for support..

Today marked the 4th ride with my new pedals, all of which had been fall free. Today was a longer ride and I am now wishing I had made the switch sooner. I only got to ride 27 miles out of a planned 40 because of a broken spoke, but I must say my feet have never felt better. No numbness, no pain!
If you have been contemplating making the switch, I HIGHLY recommend it!

Note of caution....
Be careful riding bikes that have toe straps after you go clipless. I got my first SPD pedals when I was 15 , did the initial fall thing a couple times, but every time I would ride someone elses bike with toe clips I would try to clip out of them and fall. Once your clipless pedals become instinct, you forget toe clips.

My last fall (new bike, new pedals) was in my driveway, in front my house and the entire neighborhood. They already think I've lost my mind, Fat old guy on a bicycle, so when I fell they thought I had a heart attack or stroke. No one imagines I'd actually be crazy enough to have my feet attached to the pedals
