Happy Birthday to your son and great pictures! I may need to get me some shades like that so I can he half as cool as him.
Maybe a bike with gears would be a good present for his 7th Birthday. I think my son was about 6 when he got his first geared bike, but it took him a few months to figure out how to use them correctly.

We bought this and another bike of the same model, but with front suspension and 7 speeds. He's ridden it a few times, and it'l fit him better this year. My issues with it are the extra weight and the suspension fork. He doesn't weigh 50 pounds, and the fork seems set up for someone over 100..
Here's a picture from the day we picked them up. They were pretty beat and neglected, but $25 for the pair was an easy decision. I've since overhauled both, but they need a repaint.
His old trailer bike is a 7 speed, so he has some experience with geared bikes.

Had a really nice morning ride here in Myrtle Beach SC while all my friends back home are suffering the cold and snow. Unfortunately the weather has started to turn cold as I write this so I'm glad I got out earlier.
For the next few weeks, I will be riding "Lefty", the one armed Giant Halfway folder, pictured here with the sag wagon and temporary home for Mrs browngw and myself.
Our table shelter and a tarp make a little bike garage of sorts.

Napa to Sonoma today. T shirt weather with the faintest of breezes. The views are absolutely killer. The roads are equally killer on my hindquarters... Ouch.just over sixteen miles out here, then sixteen back as soon as I refuel. There should be better pictures when I get back, didn't feel like stopping on the way out.

17 miles today doing my "Cranston Time Trial." Did it in 1:07. Not bad on the winter bike all bundled up! It was 18 degrees at ride time this morning.

Careful or those Florida boys will send some 'gators your way... It would be a pity if those big reptiles developed a taste for maple syrup. I hear they're cold blooded so maybe the snow won't bother them; the gators that is, not the Florida boys.

VR, I see snow in one of those pics! Nice day, wasn't it? Nice report. I asked my stoker/sweetie how come we never stop for funnel cakes or hot pretzels. She didn't answer.
We took the tandem out for 33.8 miles today, our second ride of the year.
First stop. There is, ah, a fair amount of snow still sitting around.
We stopped for lunch at Fern's General Store in Carlisle. We expected to see a zillion bikes, saw only a few. Here is the typical lunch-view, a quaint, prototypical town center.

Of course the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail is still weeks away from being bikeable.
The post-ride beverage of choice is a "double-IPA" from Mad River Brewing called Steelhead. I would have thought Mad River referred to Maine, but the bottle says CA. It doesn't matter. The beer is gooooood. Isdf xmrf tooo. whateber. No piccsa og thee veer.

Well, actually, yes. No gators though.
From a few years ago, the Ipswich River through Wenham Swamp. I look at this pic and think longingly of warm summer breezes. Since we started riding the tandem we haven't had the canoe out much.

I got out for a 45 mile ride this afternoon.
did someone mention maple syrup?
I was cruising downhill when I noticed my left pedal didn't seem to be engaging with my cleat.
I found this about .5 miles back, uphill of course.
I slid the body back on the spindle and was able to make it home. It might be time for a new pair of pedals.

Nice ride photos, looks like it's still cold back in New England. And that sucks to lose a pedal while out on a ride, JJS. 
This weekend was more unseasonably warm temps in the low 80s. Took advantage of Friday afternoon with more trail riding on the TRW. It's the closest and a nice mix of easy and intermediate level singletrack. Saturday though, I spent the early part of the day at a local airshow. Good times, but got too much sun and dozed off the rest of the afternoon. Sunday saw me return to the TRW Trail to explore some rarely used trails up a hill. Being rarely used, the thorny vegetation was overgrown, the surface had a lot of loose stone. A bit difficult on my ol' dropbar conversion. Bike and I suffered some scars. But the view on top was splendid.
