If the tires were rotted and a bent brake, it may have been put out for the trash, or stolen long ago. The owner may have moved on to another bike, but who knows. I know I would claim it if it was mine, no matter how long it had been gone.,,,,BD

I found these 'bout 2 weeks ago on CL, the guy really didn't/doesn't know what he had/has (he has a pair of Giants as well), he was asking $150 each 'till i had a talk with him, then he did some research and even claimed that someone else had offered him $125 for the le tour sight unseen after he agreed to sell me both for $125 (i probly shouldn't have given him that either for all the rust, etc.)

if i have the right info the conti #KK_xxxxx is chicago built from oct '74

and the le tour #SK4xxxxx is greensville, miss built oct '84...

these have been purchased for salvage to build up SS/fixie for a friend and a beater of the same nature for the wife and i...

i was hoping to keep these as original looking as possible, but they are likely to be a frame up rebuild,
maybe i can find decales, any suggestions on how to preserve the badges?

sorry, too far gone for me to invest in restoration

Vintage Cannondale Touring Dumpster Find:



sorry poor lighting in my house, didn't feel like going back in the cold!
found it next to a dumpster when I went out for a walk to get some coffee. Had to ride it home on almost flat tires. Suntour 3000, Nitto stem, 3TTT bars, brazeons for everything and three sets of water bottle mounts. I'm not really a fan of Cannondales, but it does fit me and I have been wanting a touring machine.

VERY nice find! Looks like an 87 or thereabouts? I would be thrilled to find a bike like that in a dumpster!

No finds over the weekend, but I did dig my old PH10LE out of the back of the garage, and put some working parts on it. It was really a mess, all dusty etc. The Sachs Rival never shifted that well, must have been worn out or something. I put on my recent find of Cyclone M-II derailleurs, and some wheels that were on the Fuji Touring 3. The cables I did a few weeks ago when I was flirting with the idea of sell it. I couldn't bring myself to do it, obviously

This was my first lightweight find of any quality. $9.23 WITH tax!! 24.5 pounds as it sits...!

haha, no it was a fair catch! it looked like someone had just tossed it there in an alley next to the dumpster, I only noticed becasue the color contrasted with the snow so much.

Ladies and Gentleman, TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY!
In addition to my Cannondale find listed above, I picked up these two rides for a grand total of $37.98 from salvation army:
Schwinn Tempo, Columbus Tenax frame:





and something labeled as a "Zebra Kenko", made in Japan. Just hi-Ten, but has some decent components(nice suntour stuff, cool alloy stem shifters). It does have minimal brazeons so I will probably strip the frame and pass it along for someone to make into a fixed gear if no one here tells me its the super secrect million dollar buke or something.

btw, the '73 Schwinn catalog says the Conti weighs between 37 & 39 lb, but I swear, it doesn't feel an ounce over 36lb!

I picked these NOS Gran Compe levers off of ebay for 1.99 and local pickup today, nothing fancy, but pretty nice for 1.99.

I really like the Tempo so far, its going to get fenders and rack and pull commuter duty until spring, then it will probably get a full tear down and rebuild this spring. People look down on Tenax it seems, but this bike seems lighter then similarly equipped 531 bikes I've been able to ride. I want a touring bke badly, but I prefer lugged and steel so I'm still trying to decide what I want to do on the Cannondale. Maybe I can find someone who would like to make a trade or something. I'm not really into flipping bikes but I obviously couldn't leave this there so it would be cool to trade it for something more along the lines of what I'm looking for.

I don't look down on Tenax! I have two at the moment. A 1985 Super Sport, and a pink 87 Prelude. Some very nice riding bikes came from Schwinn during 1984-89. Some of the color schemes were a little wacky starting in 88, but that Tempo is decent! Never seen that paint before.,,,,BD

I'd say VERY nice for $1.99! Those are clones of the old Campy "Record" levers and are only trivially different from the SunTour Superbe Pro levers.

you guys seems to have come up with some really good finds.
so here's my paltry offering:

believed to be a holdsworth super mistral circa 1974?
chromed rear triangle and competely chromed forks
headtset is a campagnolo type.....
cinelli bars and stem
"cyclone" rear mech
maillard freewheel
also comes with some (i think) wheels that have i think campag hubs - certainly had campag skewers in them - have a pair of gran sports in the loft just waiting for a project
the rims and spokes are shot but will break out the hubs out and see what they are like.

it's covered in several layers of paint and has some nasty "colnago" stckers on it, so planning to strip it to identify it better - the serial number should hopefully be on the fork steerer and matching the one on the bottom bracket.
i'll post some pictures at the weekend if i get time.

Not nearly as good as a Dumpster find ST500 Cannondale but I feel decent about picking up this 89 SR600 for $75. It is even my size (much to the dismay of my wife that I told I was going to flip it if it didn't fit ). Still need to give it a good cleaning, lube, new hoods and wrap but it is a rider.
May have to brave the cold and ride it to work tomorrow.

I still need to take a proper picture but this is the one the kid I bought it from sent me.

Saw a neighbor out in his yard as I rode by, and I stopped to chat. He mentioned he has a Continental that's been in his storage shed for years - it's too big for him - did I want it? It's not a Super Sport, but I'll take a Continental if it's my size. He's probably 5'8" and I'm 6'3", so with any luck...

He's got to dig it out from the back of the shed.

confirmed as a super mistral, year circa 1974. found the person who bought it in 1978.
forks are chroed but not original....
still like the bike, plan the leave the chromed triangle but paint the rest holdworth orange as per the team colours
