The voyager 11.8 (i assume, right?) has interesting gearing...just the kind of mid-range you'd need to amble around hillbilly country around here. it also has a bastard rear hub, doesn't it? I picked one up myself a little while back...maybe i posted it here, I don't remember....

I would be feeling pretty good about it too. Those are EXTREMELY nice bikes. Of course I am a little biased, I have almost the exact same bike in a larger frame, hehe. I paid $104 for mine. It was a local pickup 112 miles out of town. After 224 miles at gas over $3 a gallon, it was mine. Well worth it though. Mine came with a set of cartrdge hub bearing wheels, and the RD had been swapped to a Deore. I've been searching for that long cage 600 ever since.,,,,BD

this is a '88 Trefeo in special "Argentin" livery, it is intended to commerate the victory of Bianchi (rode by Moreno Argentin) at the world road championships in Colorado in '86.
except for the brakeset, original equip was Modolo, and the pedals it looks and sounds like it is all original.
very nice bike and great find indeed. I hope you enjoy it for years to comem should be a real headturner out on the roads.

Normally every bike I build is a straight-on road bike, but I decided to build up this Centurion Accordo Mixte with some parts I had lying around my garage a little differently, with a different purpose in mind... It has a sprung gel saddle, a vintage Pletscher rack, egg-plant colored cloth grips, and shiny chromed Northroad bars and wheels. Original Suntour AR and Sugino RT drivetrain.
-In effect, it’s a comfortable, easy riding bike, that some gal will enjoy for just cruising around the neighborhood.
PS- The little fuzzball on the back tire is from the cottonwood trees.

A LOT of us got our TdF's at the bike shop in Lawrence back in the day. I did, too. My guess is, like most of us, the owner couldn't afford the Campy parts right away, but put them on later. Before you strip that for parts, if that's your intention, consider posting this over at the GitaneUSA.com site. Several have been talking about trying to find an orange TdF... One of the active guys is from Salina, no less.

Gitane Tour de France. (From the 70s -- anyone got an idea what year?) Kind of an odd duck -- Campagnolo crankset and brakes (and gear cluster maybe, didn't look at that yet), Huret derailleurs, SunTour shifters, and a Brooks Professional saddle. Needs a little work -- new wheels & tires (they're sewups), replace bar tape, rear derailleur needs adjustment -- but it was only $50. The guy had listed it to give away, but it wound up that I knew him from way back so I felt I should give him at least a little beer money.

He had so many calls he jacked it up to $300- he felt bad so he threw in 5 (!) track wheelsets (3 Campy high flange- 2 Dura-Ace!)-
He said he considered just throwing it all in the dumpster instead of hassling w/ Craigslist!
I 'm still stunned by my good fortune!- 1967 P-14 Schwinn Paramount:
He had so many calls he jacked it up to $300- he felt bad so he threw in 5 (!) track wheelsets (3 Campy high flange- 2 Dura-Ace!)-

I was stoked to see the chrome Nervex lugs- I've heard that not to many P-14's (Track model) were ordered w/ the lugs chromed-Added weight!

That Paramount is an amazing score, congratulations!!
My latest find was considerably more pedestrian - a Kabuki SSK found at a pawn shop. I would normally have passed on this one, but it's been upgraded with a nice six-speed Shimano 600 drivetrain, Dia Compe brakes, and Wolber rims. Most of those will be used on my Voyageur project, and I'll get my money out of the Kabuki. I think the Atax Plastic Seatpost of Death may go into the recycle bin before someone gets hurt

Not that old, but ... This was a recent garage sale find ("after" pix) that I paid too much for, but it was my size and I had my eye out for one. The 17-year-old tires were "toast", the L-side Grip-Shifter was broken, the stock deraileurs were junk, the brake pads were hard like cinder blocks, the spoke protector was crumbling apart, the bearing grease had rubberized, and it was a Grimey, shmutz-encrusted, dingey, filthy mess. A good "scrap metal" candidate to most folks. It now has 700 x 37 WTB Slickasaurus tires, Shimano STX derailleurs and cantilever brake calipers, Shimano QR hub skewers, new brake pad, rear rack, 2 water bottle cages, and a mid-1980s L-side thumb shifter (i like friction shifters for the front changers). Cleaning supplies included Awesome cleaner, Gunk Engine Brite, Turtle Wax polishing wax, Turtle Wax car wax, Castrol axle grease. Testors red model paint was "right on the money", and help up to being polished with car wax. These bikes are nice riding and pretty versatile.
