Well, found one today! I was going to go get it this weekend, but the seller wouldn't do half on Paypal and half when I got there. Not sure why. I gave it away a bit in a post I dragged up. This is an odd one, and you definitely don't see them every day!! It's a 1974(I think?) Volkscycle Mark 100. Crane GS RD, Titlist FD, Shimano 333 large flange hubs and bar ends, Dura Ace brakes with turkey levers. SR custom two bolt seatpost. Tension adjustable saddle,(needs reupholstered) Dura Ace double cranks, and Yuko cold forged dropouts. The main tubes sound like a Crane bell. The most surprising thing to me, the entire frame is chromed under the paint!? Almost unheard of in the mid seventies, am I right? This is going to be a fun project! All original if possible, and probably shellaced cloth wrap. I am going to try and perform a turkeylevectomy, but I will keep them of course.,,,,BD

Dued, by your remarks, the pics and the pieces, it looks remarkably like a '78 Panasonic Touring Deluxe I once had. It had Crane RD, Dura Ace crank, and flaking paint with chrome underneath.

How about the upper stays? Were they flat like this? On the headbadge it says Volks Cycle Corp. Los Angeles, CA. I guess it could have been a Panasonic farmed frame. I also heard there was a Dawes connection from the seller. It was his Uncles College bike and he(the Uncle) bought it new in California at Stone's Cycle(s). Still has the dealer sticker, and a registration sticker numbered 119741 which is also stamped into the BB. God knows why they would do such a thing, as it removed paint in the process.
It also has some other nice features for a bike this old. The BB spindle is satin plated and has bolts not nuts. There's also a toothed lockring on the headset, which leads me to believe it's an early Tioga? It makes me wonder if this bike is actually newer, like maybe late seventies or extremely early eighties? The lugs look somewhat like Nervex, but are a clever knock off. The frame is surprisingly light too. It weighs about the same as my Aerospace GP Viscount, which still had the spindle in it.,,,,BD

Bikedued,

I really like that Volkscycle and first gen DA!!I had that exact model Volkscycle except mine was blue. I parted and flipped mine as it was too big. That frame is crazy light for it's size. If you can remember when you break it down, please weigh it w/ the fork. I would be curious to see what it weighs. Below is a pic of the frame I sold pre-ebay.

I was blown away at how light the one I had was too.

Too bad it was folded in half, seems to be quite a unique ride.

found this around the block from my house sitting at the curb. Anyone know what years these bikes were made?? ..Ross Barracuda

Doesnt seem like anything is missing or broken, just flat dry rotted tires, and the handle bars keep coming loose from the stem. I stole some newer style tires from my younger bros bmx and it rode great besides ther loose bars.

Anyone know where I can get some replacement tires.

I bought a 1984 World from one of our local Salvation Army outlets for 35.00 it was in pretty good shape, had the original dry rotted tires and a few flecks of rust on the chrome.
I stripped it down to bare and had a guy do an excellent powder coat job on it.
Just got it back from my buddy at the lbs last night for wheel truing, cables, and tape job. only got to ride it about a mile so far, it looks awesome! I'll post pics on my facebook later today. https://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/p...06912&ref=name

Lotus 2000R Pro Series

Hey Guys,

I found this on Craigslist and the price was just too good to pass up. I wanted a road bike so I could work on my stamina, flexibility, and strength. I didn't want to jump into road biking again on a Cervelo; I was afraid I would look like a fred. I also thought that's just a tad too much to spend!

Anyway, the bike is a Lotus 2000R pro-series. As far as I know this bike is from 1992, and has very little miles on it. It's got Suntour VX indexed shifting, 52/42 front with, amazingly, a suntour vx front derailleur. The brakes are Dia compe vx and the handlebars are nice Sakae champion bars with some Cyndi Lauper-esque neon tape. The neon green nashbar bottle cages make the bike for me The rims are Velotech by mavic, hubs are shimano 105 QR's. The frame is fully lugged cro-mo. Unknown brand, so maybe low end, dunno about that one. The whole rig as it sits is about 25 lbs.

The bike shop guys were impressed that the anodizing on the rims is still intact on the braking surface, leading them to believe it's just hung in a garage for most of its life.

Rode it last night and it's tight and fast! the downtube shifters are something new to me, but pretty easy to figure out. I put some velox tape and ultra gatorskins on it. My 1 mile ride turned into a 10 mile 'race the sunset home' ride!

It started disintegrating after 20 minutes on the hoods. It's some cheap foam stuff. have some nice black cork I'll wrap on there this weekend.

Picked up a way too big Panasonic DX 2000 today. Bought it for the wheels and the bar end shifters, which was all I could make out as useful from the CL pictures. Reality is even better. Ideale leather saddle, Campy record hubs, Shimano 600 cranks, Campy pedals, Campy bar end shifters, wheels are 700c and a nice frame pump. All for $50.

First bike I have ever picked up with butted hi-ten tubing.

More pictures up here:

I agree. It looks a lot like mine, which was on of the first racing frames they made. I'll post some pics as soon as I get it cleaned up, although mine doesn't have those cool decals. I got mine in 1985.

I stopped riding mine years ago when I gained weight. I'm losing the weight now, and hope to be back on it soon!
