Think I got an "SL" instead of a wireless PT

I bought what was supposed to be a wireless PT on eBay. The Hub says "SL" and in the computer, there is no HubID option...

My wireless hubs, also say SL on the hub, but on the plastic shell they say 2.4, not SL.

The auction clearly said it was a 2.4 wireless hub with wireless transmission and said it "does not come with handlebar mount" didn't say anything about Shark fin, wires, etc.

All of my wireless PT's say "2.4" on the hub shell, however they are older. Please set me straight here... is it possible this is truly "wireless" IE wireless from hub to handlebar, or did I get fooled?

P.S. why do i feel like this happened to someone else on BF.

edit

nevermind, there is no freakin transmitter inside of the hub shell. great.........

That stinks. Hope you get it straightened out.

I seem to remember another bf-er having a wheel built that turned out to be an SL. He ordered the parts, and sent them straight to the builder without checking them.

Yup that is what I remember. What a PITA. It is a bit confusing since I guess the SL is "2.4 wireless" in its transmission from the hub to the shark. The problem was this auction said it was for a WIRELESS POWERTAP we all know wireless means from the hub to the handlebar. And it said no mention of the missing shark/wiring harness. Oh well.

No chance they built the TX'er into the hub casing for 2008 ??? All of my wireless hubs are older... there is a small black transmitter inside with an FCC ID when I take off the cap to change batteries. wishful thinking probably.

Wonder if I couldn't swap the transmitter from my other PT's into this one. It looks like it screws right in...

I have seen a few auctions on ebay that messed that up. You have to be careful and know what you're talking about....and realize that a lot of the people selling powertaps are people that really knew nothing about it to begin with.

I'm sure that many of them know damn well that they are misleading people, and are trying to make more money off their PT SLs. When I was looking on ebay for a powertap I almost fell for that trap quite a few times.

That sucks, man. You should definitely pursue a refund. Doesn't paypal have a buyer protection guarantee?

Was it new in the box? Could be an honest mistake. When I ordered mine from Saris they actually shipped an SL in a 2.4 box.

I can understand the confusion. I'm still not entirely sure what all the different PT things mean.

I've looked at them on eBay, but all the different names are confusing as crap.

I would guess it's going to be a mess as the old stuff gets sold off. Sucks they just left the wires out and called it wireless.

You have to admit that it's a little funny though don't you?

It doesn't come with wires, therefore it's wireless.

Heh.

One thing - that logo on the plastic cover doesn't mean a thing; they're interchangeable. I'd at least spin it up and see if it registers.

ELJamaquoi exactly. a few things come into play - they change the letters on the cap throughout the year. if you check out the 2009 models, they all say cool things like... "PRO".... "SL+" (SL+ was in one of the pictures of the auction) and "SLC+" etc. For me, having older wireless models, I had no clue what the latest wireless "says" on the plastic cover. Anyway, yes I will pursue the PayPal buyer protection, but I am waiting to hear from the original seller first.

unfortunately I got a "great deal" and i was also watching another "great deal" that I think was ACTUALLY wireless, and sold for the same exact price....and I can't really afford the new 09 stuff with ANT+ that I don't need. Oh well...anyway thanks for the clarifications and pity haha

Try to resolve this with the buyer directly. If he does not want to do anything about it, eBay has a conflict resolution system you have to go through. Its a bit of a pain and takes some time but in the end, it helps you out. eBay's conflict resolution is more biased toward the buyer (which hurts honest sellers) so more often than not, you'll get your way. Since eBay owns paypal, it'll be pretty seemless getting your money.
