Question about bike chain..
How can I tell if my bike takes a 1/8 or 3/32 chain? The chainring is a Rocket 42t and the freewheel (this is my single speed project, not my fixed gear) appears to be a no name brand. Both do not say what size chain is needed.

That's the problem. This is a project bike, so there is no chain on it yet.
Is it safe to assume that since the chainring is for a bmx, that the chain needed is 1/8?

Any shop should be able to measure your freewheel and chainring in a few seconds for you and would definitely do it for free, if you were to buy a chain from them.

you can always run 1/8" chain on 3/32" drivetrain
with that said 1/8" is loud even with a good chainline and I would do what I can to run 3/32"
