Boring pics of a boring place.

I've managed to catch a bad cold. No riding or running this weekend! It was nice enough to get out and go for a walk, so I grabbed the camera and went to a local multi use facility.
The ground is privately owned and maintained by Dr Douglas Iliff. It's Primary purpose is a Cross country running course, both 2 mile and 5k courses. It also has hiking/biking/horse trails.

The Ground has some history, It was a part of the treaty of 1829. The treaty gave the Kaw indians a peice of ground on both banks of the Kansas or "Kaw" river for about 100 miles. It also made provision for 23 Half breed daughters of Cheif White Plume. Each daughter was deeded one square mile on the north side of the river, heading back towards what is now Lawrence Kansas. This 80 acres is part of Half breed reserve #7, And sits north east of Topeka.

This half breed daughter's name was Marie, She married a french trapper named Louis Gonvil, and the two settled on the ground after the treaty was struck. This date is believed to be put there by Louis Gonvil.

The ground remained in the native american reserves until the late 1970's When it was determine there were no ancestors left to claim the ground. The land was sold to different buyers. this 80 acres is open to the public from dawn till dusk everyday, thanks to the Kindness of Doug and Dorothy Iliff.

This Cabin was built by an eagle scout as a scouting project. He built it to exact dimensions of the first cabin in Topeka, and did all the work himself. Doug and Dorothy let people camp in the cabin if they ask permission.

They Even built something for the kids.

The wife has been over her cold for about a week, so she got to play, unfortunately for me, I was just there to carry the camera.
