Anyone else interested, 500 miles for the month of February. The 300 is kinda easy for me being that i'm in FL. So I would like to up the challenge, since I only have till tomorrow to get the remaining 23 miles of my 500 it is about what I should be doing for the month.

Well that ain't much of a challenge if you can do it You should make it at least 600 miles. As an added bonus you can join the 300 mile challenge and just count half your miles.

I can do it during the Summer, but NOT in February. Just this past week I've had to take the car twice because of a snow storm rolling through. It pretty much hasn't stopped snowing for more than an hour at a time during the last 48 hours. During the last 24 hours its has snowed only lightly, but the wind is moving enough snow around that even with the prolific plowing going on that the roads are quite tricky in areas. This morning there were areas where my snow tires were packing up and the car was moving around a bit on its own... no problem when you know how to drive in snow, but definitely not fun when on 2 wheels. I'll be happy to try to hit 500 miles in April or May.

I try to hit 50 miles a week, but we will see what the next few weeks brings. There is talk of an other major snow storm moving in next Tuesday. At least the cross country skiing should be good.

Happy riding,
André

Hey now, don't go raising the bar on me when I'm patting myself on the back for almost being there now.

Even at that, January had 5 Saturdays in it, which helps to make the mileage.

You guys only ride on the weekends? I guess I have two luxuries FL and, I work 12 hour shifts at the hospital. So 3 days a week on and four off. Gives me lots of time to ride.

jesspal, I'm in. Short month, more miles than I've ever done in a month by far, but I'm in. Thanks for kicking me in the rear. My commuting has sucked the last few months. Hardly ridden at all. Now I have to, or be publicly shamed. Cool. Do I get a bonus award for doing it on studded tires?

I work 4 tens but Fridys are spent doing the parent's yardwork. They take me to eat breakfast or lunch after. Somethings are more important than just riding!

I get to bed at 3 am so the last week was training the body to get out of bed early trying to adjust to the hours. I live in the foothills so jumping out of bed and riding up the mtn is tough. But I need to train the body to get up and out if I plan to increase my mileage this year! Well, not just mileage but intensity!

I feel the bod is adjusting just fine so I figure I'll make 500 in Feb!

I like the 500 idea, because when i think of 300 I am not intimidated. When I think 500 I am thinking I better get my sh... together and ride. Having a goal really keeps me motivated. One of my current goals is to get my 60 mile ride done in 3 hours or less. I am currently at 3:35, but it is about 20 minutes shorter then in Dec.

Also I've lost about 45lbs since August. The lbs are coming off slower than at first but that is natural. I weighed in in the 270's today for the first time in about 10 years. I still wanna lose another 100lbs. I know that is gonna take a lot of blood, sweat, and more sweat.

I was getting near 100mi per week and getting 125 wouldn't have seemed a stretch until just lately... ice, work taking me out of town, and I caught a freggin cold..

I'll give it a try. But, I'm not betting on myself.

How about a really tough one when the weather breaks... say a 500 mile week in June or July?

Wow 500 mile week, in June or July here would be tough with the weather here like 90 every day. I'd have to do over 125 miles a day during that week. We could start smaller maybe 300 a week, and see how that goes.

I've already done 500 in January. I dunno if I can keep that up in Feb or not. It'll depend on the weather.

I'll have an almost 400 mile week in May, with about 23,000 of climbing.

Tour de Cure century on th 17th, and I'm riding it as a 200k by starting from my apartment and riding to the start line. (~6600 climbing)
Then commute to work 4 days, so there's another 120 miles (~2000/day climbing)
Finish it on Friday with the 7 Hills of Kirkland century, which I'll ride to/from, for a total of nearly 140 for the day (~9000 climbing for the day.)

Convincing Mr. Beanz is going to be a tough one, though.

I'm in. I hit 550 or so in January, so I should be able to make it in Feb as long as there isn't too much rain/ice.

I am not afraid of the Meaner Beaner. This is an internet forum, not a boxing ring. :-) If I lived in sunny Kalifornikstan, I would ride everyday also. I don't have bike trails to ride on that are safe, and I want to ride some of his rides. I just don't have the opportunity, so rollers and trainers are my only bicycle workout. If I could count my swimming miles times 15 or 20, I could hit it also. I am trying not to focus on the bike and get a lot of cross training in.
