Rim nick: problem or no?

Greetings,

Today Fedex delivered a Scattante Americano that I ordered from Performance. I've unpacked everything and will do the assembly tomorrow, but I have a question. There is a small gouge or nick on the rim of the rear wheel, and I am wondering if this is a problem. For example, will the edge on the nick tear up my brake pad? Should I try to file it at all? Is the integrity of the rim in any way compromised? Am I an idiot who should forget it and ride? Thanks for any help.

Not a safety issue for sure. Most likely not a big deal.

Your brake pads will actually wear down the edges on the braking surface. I had a similar concern on a wheel and now I can't tell where the nick was. Unfortunately, the brake pad can't help the other part of the nick, but structurally it should not be an issue.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the answers. I'll just proceed with assembly and not worry about it.
