the bottom bracket threads on locking cup...

are sticking out a little bit. i know it's the right size bb. it's a truvativ square taper 68mm shell width and it's going into my surly cross check. the bottom bracket i removed from it originally was the same shell width. i've threaded it properly but the lockring cup seems to have a few excess threads sticking out when i'm done tightening it down.

is this normal?

thanks!!!

I don't think it's too "abnormal", but my experience is limited to 1. I'm kind of a C&C guy-

The one I did had about 1-1/2 threads left before the fear of breaking the plastic cup set in.
There are shims available, typically used on the drive side, to make small adjustments to the chain line. If one used a shim, then the locking cup couldn't possiblt be torqued properly before it ran out of threads.
That's my story....

Not a big deal as long as the cups are properly installed. It's better to have the lock ring fully threaded rather than just barely hanging on by a thread or two.
