Stem Decals.. OFF!
OK... I've searched the forum... and goooooooooogle etc, but I can find a way to remove the white, in my case Ritchey, lettering (screen printed???) from a black anodized stem.
Any pointers?

I thought that stuff was laser etched.

"Fraid not. I've painted over the logo on a black painted stem and I've polished the logo off of a polished stem but I don't know how to remove the logo from a black anodized stem. I'm of the opinion that it's probably going to be less distracting to leave the logo on. If you don't match the rest of the finish pretty perfectly it'll really look bad.

Options: 1.) Paint with satin black paint 2.) Wrap with bar tape (lame).
Neither option are good. Paint doesn't stick well ( I tried it) and looks like you painted over the letters. Sharpe doesn't work b/c it bleeds thru white (I tried it too).
On my Ritchey seatpost the letters go down into the seat tube, and even with the rubbing of the tight seat tube on the lettering the print is not even scratched!! So with that observation I think scraping it off is not a good option.
Only way is to probably grind it off with a bench grinder than re-annodize or powder coat or primer and paint the entire stem from bare aluminum.

Bench grinder? Are you serious?
Geez.
Have you tried acetone? MEK? Steel wool? A Scotchbrite pad?

I ran into a similar problem with a silver Ritchie seatpost. The post is clear anodized and it had a large Ritchie logo that I didn't like. the logo is stamped on with paint, so paint remover took it off and had no effect on the anodizing.
I did the same thing to the lettering on one of the new aluminum-shelled Sturmey Archer hubs.
