16 rides through Mayfield

Since the 27th of January I have had the great pleasure of touring the lovely streets of Mayfield. Through rain and shine, day and night it's been an extremely pleasant experience. Wonderful, freindly people have been at every turn which is a rare occurance these days. To date I've taken 16 of those pleasant rides for a total of 245 miles and I do believe I'm starting to get back into shape as I'm now averaging just under 20 mph. on every ride.

I expect to take about eight more rides through that beautiful nostolgic town over the next nine days or so for another 160 miles of fun times. By then I will have viewed the entire 3 DVD set of "Leave it to Beaver" the first year while riding my Schwinn Airdyne in the basement at home!! After that.....a box set of John Wayne movies from the mid thirties. There's no telling where I'll ride during those DVD's but I'm sure it'll be exciting.

Oh, it's snowing outside.

Perhaps after Cranky gets tired of riding through the fictional town of Mayfield, he can switch to the fictional town of Mayberry, as he watcheds DVDs of the Andy Griffith Show. From there it will be on to Hooterville.

I have no aunts or uncles, since both my parents were only children. However, if I did, my aunt and uncle could beat up your aunt and uncle any day.

June Cleaver: Dear, do you think all parents have this much trouble?
Ward Cleaver: No, just parents with children.
.
.
Ward Cleaver: Well, you boys are very quiet tonight. What are you thinking about?
"Beaver" : I was just thinkin' what I'd do if I was a pig eatin' peoples ribs.
June Cleaver: Beaver, please.
.
.
Ward Cleaver: Ah, June, Gilbert's always talking about his parents. Have you ever met them?
June Cleaver: Oh, I see her at the supermarket every once in a while. She seems like a calm sensible person.
Ward Cleaver: You can't really go by that. You might look the same way to her.

No Hooterville for this guy. Having raised three daughters of our own (spending the majority of my life as the only male in a house full of women) I've had just the right amount of Estrogen influence for a while. I wouldn't want to overdo a good thing now, would I? Don't get me wrong, I'm hanging onto my bride, she's a Keeper for sure. One daughter is out on her own and the other two are off to college.

After riding the streets of Mayfield I'll be riding the open range with a young John Wayne for quite a while, and then it's off to Germany and Stalag 13 with Col. Hogan. I imagine after all that traveling it will be Summer time, I'll be slimer, and I'll be posting ride reports and pictures from real towns.

Bye for now, I think I hear the Beaver calling from the basement.

Not that kind of Hooterville! I'm talking about the Hooterville where Oliver Wendell and Lisa Douglas moved. Where Sam Drucker ran the general store, Mr. Kimball was county agent, and where the Ziffels lived down the road with their son, Arnold the pig. Where when you needed a carpenter, you called the Monroe Brothers, of which one was a woman.
