Countdown to 500k!!
The ol '91 Bike Mobile just keeps humming right along. It has a number of cosmetic issues but still runs very, very well. Come to think about it, it is older than my son and also seen 3 of our pets come and go. We're the original owners. My wife handed it over to me about 250,000 miles ago.
It is perfect for transporting bikes as I can just roll bikes right in the back and attach them to the sides of the vehicle-the bikes don't even need any of their wheels removed or my saddle lowered.
Heck, it might even be the transportation that gets us out to Glenwood Springs this August.
As of today it has 496,000+ miles and climbing. If it makes it to 500k I might just reward it with a new muffler. I'm probably adding about 3000 +/- miles a month so we're getting pretty close. We're wanting to plan an appropriate celebration for the big event.
I need some ideas on how to appropriately celebrate the event.
What would you suggest??? The person with the winning idea gets one free ride!!
(No smart comments about the parking job)

It does not have anywhere near as many miles on it as your van, but my 1988 Dodge Aries K-car station wagon hit the 21-year mark at the end of December, which is a new longevity record for any car I have ever owned. I always aim for 20 years, but usually end up keeping a car for 13 to 18 years. (I gave it to my inlaws 8 years ago, and they gave it to one of my neighbors about a year ago, but it's kind of fun seeing my old wreck parked right around the corner from my house. I sure miss the 51" wide tailgate opening for hauling drywall or plywood, which I know your Previa can do with aplomb.)

I think many of us have posted our bike mobiles before, and some pretty fab cars/trucks show up. But here's my 93 Ranger. Only 155K on it and I put more miles on my bike in a year than on the truck. But it holds up to three bikes (the bed is carpeted) and I've slept back there, too. Love my truck.

Yes, I agree with the Doctor, in fact when I saw the post, I thought you meant you were getting ready for a 500 Kilometer ride. That would be 311 miles, so easily do-able in one long weekend.
Of course, you would have to do some planning, but still, the Randoneers do 600 Kilometers in a weekend, so 500 should be a piece of cake (wait . . . I mean Pie!).

My Dodge Caravan just lost its transmission at 161,000 miles. Cost to repair is approx $2000. Blue Book is $2500. Haven't yet decided if it is worth the investment.

I doubt that I could sell either of my cars for what I paid for my road bike, about $2K. My 32 year old GMC and my 23 year old Blazer have about 530,000 miles between them. They aren't real pretty.

We have just bought a new car- A small VW Fox and that was to replace the wifes car that was 16 years old and had just started to make too many wierd noises. My car is still at work and hasn't turned a wheel since December. That one is a keeper though. only 180,000 miles on it and is the Tandem transporter.

We kept a Plymouth Horizon as our "back up car" which worked great for hauling bikes. With one of the captian's seats removed there was seating for 3 and room to roll three bikes in without taking anything off the bikes. Last spring coming home from a group ride I noticed the odometer was 10 miles away from reaching 200,000 miles, and mentioned it to my son, when suddenly a deer came flying over the front of the van. The result was a smashed grille, hood, windshield and broken sideview mirror on a 10 yr old van with brand new tires. Insurance paid us for the van which hasn't been replaced yet and I didn't get 200,000 miles.
Jppe, that has to be some kind of PR, at least a BF 50+ record for frugality and stick-to-it-ness.

Just a quick update.
After a bike trip to the NC mountains yesterday to get in some riding I'm now at 499,800 so it looks like the big day will be later this week. The zero's on the odometer are already starting to show themselves.
We have had lots of communication with Toyota and they have expressed interest in our celebration but temper it because it is not a US made vehicle.
