My daughter is hardcore!

Now that I have your attention;

During January I put together a nice commuter/road bike for my daughter. Using a new Jamis Nova Pro Cyclocross frame, I added 105 & ultegra bits and Mavic Open Pro wheels.

I imagined she would start commuting as the weather warmed, we live in Chicago.

This morning she announced that she did not want to keep paying for gas and maintaince and was commuting by bike from now on!

I told her it was still cold, about 35f and that it might rain today.

She took off anyway and called upon arrival me to say that she loves the new bike.

You must have helped raise her right - I'm in the same area you are and it's pretty miserable out today.

Proud but surprised. It’s raining now, I should offer to give her a ride home. I think she has sticker shock at the cost of brake work on her car.

I started commuting last year and my 20 year old daughter started riding regularly on a used Giant Cypress. She complained that the bike was too heavy to carry up stairs.

The new bike is about 10 lbs lighter at about 18#'s and she is one happy rider. She has always been a good athlete and self reliant.

Cheers,

Michael

My lady gets to school/work by bike a lot when it's nicer out, and I've been trying to encourage her to try when it's not freezing, but she just hasn't felt like it, I guess. Still love her, just wish she didn't spend so much on gas.

Spent most of my early life in the Windy. Downtown has a nice trail system along the lakefront, and I remember riding on some nice long trails through the woods out in the Western Suburbs. But, I cannot even begin to imagine commuting there during the month of February.

Talked to her since it started raining? It's pretty wet/damp/dreary out there now, but at least it's not snow.

THAT is a nice build. Not a cheap Franken-bike. I have an Aurora Elite, and would've liked that Nova Pro frame.

So she SHOULD be thrilled with it. But not everyone knows quality, so I'm glad to hear that she loves it. Nice job!

Nah, just get her a set of SKS raceblades, J&G Raingear from www.bicycleclothing.com and she'll be fine. Enjoy the satisfaction of 2 jobs well done. The example of cycle-commuting and the great relationship.

I went and got her, she might have made it home between cloudbursts, but Chicago got a lot of rain yesterday. Plus, I'm her Dad: Ya know .

Well done. It looks like a nice build. I'm glad she likes it. And I bet she would have done fine in the rain.

It's nice to see a parent pass on the benefits of commuting to their kid. Commuting will help her and everyone in these hard times. Keeping people healthy and letting them save more money to get a roof over their head that they will own. Keep on truckn yall! Peace
