The dire predictions of heavy snowfall are pretty common. Them actually happening is another matter. Looks like they were right today.

I'll see how much snow is on the ground when it's time to go. It's 7 miles home but I can shorten it significantly by taking the train part of the way. The problem with that is I have to ride through traffic to get to a station. If worse comes to worse, I'll throw on my running shoes and hoof it to the train. I've done it before.

It was snowing pretty hard when I left (in my Jeep) this morning for work. People around here are dismally unprepared for driving in the snow, and I saw many cars in the ditch on my way to work. 2 of them before I was a mile from my house!

Play safe in that snow and have much fun with the ride home!

I only live about 5 blocks from University, but I waded through about six inches this afternoon walking home. I was planning on cycling to a friend's tonight, but decided against it, =)

We just went from having some springlike weather and dry roads to having another 4 inches of that white crap to deal with.

In such weather I will take the sidewalks, albeit at slower speeds if need be.

Hope you had a safe journey home. My co-workers in Minnersoda mentioned that storm this morning! I told them we were having 50' temps and they told me to shut up!

I've biked through snow this winter with normal tires and took it slow and when I say slow I mean slooooooooow. Otherwise you're tires will slip and you'll wipe out...Which for me, in heavy traffic, spells instant death.

If there's serious accumulation and they haven't plowed the streets/bike paths yet, I would suggest you do take the train as far as you can and slowly and cautiously bike the rest of the way.

I ride through monsoons and typhoons until they say to stay indoors, but snow that sounds like an adventure.

I made it home OK. There was a few different options I considered. The MUP probably would have been pretty fun to ride on, - for a little while.

The train seemed liked the best choice so that's what I did. Getting to the station wasn't too bad but for a minute or two I was wishing I'd just left the bike at work. My wife called and asked if I wanted her to pick me up at the station closest to our house. I agreed but probably would have gotten home quicker if I had just biked from there. She was late and got stuck in the parking lot, so I had to get out and push.

Bikes are easier to get unstuck.

Snow is fun. An adventure for sure. When it's fresh and there's no ice beneath - that's the best. Knobby CX tires help -- studded, even better. The problem for me is when the snow is falling heavily and it's getting in my eyes. Much worse than rain in the eyes. It's pretty much impossible to keep them open. I'll probably get ski goggles next year.

Looks like one hell of a storm. Glad you made it home OK - nice touch of irony that the car gets stuck.
