Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

kick my butt....please

I've posted this in the general discussion forum as well (sorry for the crosspost).

Our friend Lucklust (Torrin Arnold) is planning on doing the Aids/Life Cycle ride to San Francisco in June on a fixed gear. He was recently struck by a car apparently driven by a drunk driver, but still intends to do the ride. His setback because of his injuries have prompted me to get off my butt and exercise my plastic.

I'm challenging everyone on the board to meet or exceed my donation of $50 USD in support of this cause and Torrin's testículos grandes in doing the ride (or even if his doc locks him in a closet so he can't do it). If you don't have any 50 bones you can put up, do what you can.

Visit https://www.aidslifecycle.org/1948 to support this worthy cause and a dedicated cyclist.

If you would like to meet this challenge, please post a response in the general cycling forum so we can get some momentum going...

I would rather throw lucklust 20 bucks to help defray his medical costs or to buy him some alcohol than give to aids ride. Cyclists > aids victims, at least to me.

Tell me where to paypal my 20 bucks, will buy him a few beers at least

Tell you what, kurremkarm. We can compromise. I'm going to have to buy a new helmet, and I'm dirt poor. If you really feel like paypaling me 20$, I'll use it towards a helmet, and will even put a sticker on it that says "paid for by kurremkarm." My paypal name thingy is lucklust@yahoo.com This will also work for any potential donors to the AidsLifecycle charity if they would prefer. Just make sure and specify what it's for in the notes.

Thanks everybody. I'm amazed that there are so many good people out there. The cycling community seems to be pretty damn supportive.

You can read my general reply here... https://www.bikeforums.net/general-cycling-discussion/52222-kick-my-butt-please.html

I also wanted to add that you fixed riders are the ones that are making this happen. I don't even know what to say...

...(insert heartfelt, poignantly comical, tearjerking soliloquy here)...

...and that is all I have to say about that.

How much is shipping on a bike to continental USA? Just curious, odds of me purchasing a custom bike are, well not bad, eventually, but in the near future the same as the odds of me winning the lottery.

And Will, when you get the bike we are gonna want to see pics.

Out-frigging-standing! I'm also excited to see the bike. I'm due for a good **gasp** road bike this fall, and have been considering my own pet Thylacine.

You should see my new Tephra. All I need is for the LBS to finish my friggin' wheels and I'll be riding this bad boy this weekend. It's pearl orange. It's steel. It has all black parts. Yummayyyyy.

Will is doing navy man type sh1t atm, so it might be the end of the week before he checks his inbox and sees a pretty colour rendering of what his bike could look like. Hopefully he'll post it here so you guys can all exercise your right as armchair critics to bag the crap out of it

BTTT, come on guys, I know there's some deep pockets out there. Let go of some of that dough and help a fellow "fixer" out. You can do without that new stem for another month.

Screw deep. If just the regulars here done donated 10 dollars. Figure there's at least 20 regulars.

C'mon people, I loose my email and internet connection today. I'd like to at least see Torrin get some more change towards his minimum.

Or don't donate, really. But the truth being, it's more than about AIDS, it's about helping out others.

I bought PBR 30's and saved $30 against what I usually spend on beer. I gave it to Torrin's cause. I am sure this can be done by others. Got Paypal? So does Torrin. No excuses...

Super giganic props to Thylacine and Mr. Karstens! Personally I think what they're doing is ultra cool. Makes my 52 bucks seem lame! All I can do at this point is encourage people. Let's show em what a bunch of lame fixers can do. I don't know any of these people outside of cyberspace but I can tell by their actions I'd like to go riding and drinking with them. Keep it coming folks.

Fundraising Goal: $2500

Current Total: $547

If you just read the above and have done nothing to make the lower number closer to the higher number (and you have the means to), then you suck. I am not very good at this kind of thing, but $10-15 is really not that much for most. Think about it, and then agree that Torrin's cause is a good one.

Really, I haven't done a thing, the bike was going to happen, Mr. Thylacine had a good pitch, so it works out. Thylacine deserves the credit, I just get to ride the bike.

The incredibly stupid part of this, is that if we all donated to those less fortunate, and we all distributed the wealth evenly around the world, we'd realise we all make about 30 bucks a week.

As 165 would say - "Where's the progredior?"
