All new parts, just assmbled, slight side2side wobble in chainring!!

All new parts, just assmbled, slight side2side wobble in chainring!!
Ohh say it ain't so.
Last night I had it all put together: my bottom bracket and cranks and as I spun the cranks and watched them I don't believe I noticed any side to side wobble.
Today I took the cranks off (to fiddle a bit with the bottom bracket set up) set the cranks on the spindle, tightened the crankbolt and there it was! A side to side wobble. Normally this wouldn't bother me too too bad, but as it is there is only about a millimeter of clearance between the chainstay and the underside of the spider right where the chainring bolts go. Sigh.
What could possibly account for this wobble? If it were a used bike I would wonder if my chainring was bent, but that's just not possible here...

Secondly, try to isolate the problem with unit testing. Take the ring off and place it on a flat surface to see if it will lay down completely flat on both sides. If it doesn't, that's your problem. If it does, then the problem could be with the BB spindle being bent or the crank arm being bent.
To test the crank arm, try placing the spider (without the ring on) on a flat surface and test that. If it rocks like a table with one shorter leg, then that's your problem. If not, maybe the BB spindle.
