Chicago MUP madness, 172 miles & 25+ pics!

I was able to cover 3 popular bikepaths while cycling around Chicago and the Northshore suburbs this week. The bike paths include the 35 mile Rt Chicago lakefront, the 34.6 mile Rt Northbranch and the Chicago & Skokie Channel Park bike path that runs along McCormick Ave in Skokie and continues south to Kedzie & Lawrence in Chicago, this is a 12 mile Rt. I also biked up Sheridan Rd from Evanston to Glencoe and connected to the Northbranch bikepath to return to Chicago.

All of these a less than 5 miles from my home on the North side of Chicago. Cold weather and wind kept the masses at home and riding was great.

Chicago Lakefront, Navy Pier;

From Grant Park & Buckingham Fountain;

The view from the Adler Planetarium;

Moving on down the road, the City from Lake Shore Drive near Hyde Park;

The East wing of the Museum of Scince & Industry;

Jackson Park Marina and below the South Shore Cultural Center;

I'll post more pics in a new post, this time from the Channel Park bike path, the North Branch bike path and along Sheridan Rd in Evanston, Wilmette and Glencoe.

Cheers,

Michael

This time heading north along the Channel Park bike path, McCormick Blvd in Skokie is just to the west;

Channel Park has a few dozen modern art pieces;

All the details;

Go NU Wildcats!

Baha'i House of Worship, Wilmette;

My Soma Double Cross;

My shortcut in Wilmette provided a surprise surface;

Just finished the S curves on Sheridan between Tower Road & Woodlawn Ave, here looking south as I enter Glencoe;

Next, the North Branch bike path.

Beautiful. The only time I have ever spent in Chicago was a layover at the airport. I have got to make it out that way one of these days.

Now for my favorite MUP, The Cook County North Branch bike path. Its a 42 mile Rt from my home. Today I repeated most of it for a 75 mile trip.

This picture is taken from the Dundee Rd bridge, the Skokie Lagoons;

Heading into the morning sun;

Water everywhere;

looking back;

Here comes a cool rider, it was frosty at dawn;

You are here;

...and so are these two;

Cycling interruptus;

Early springtime wildlife;

Back in Chicago at Caldwell & Damen;

Well, thats all for now!

Thanks for sharing; some great pics! I like knowing that you can get around a big city on a bike. That's quite a contrast from my typical rural/suburan ride:

p.s. No hands on the bricks--nice!

I haven't been to Chicago in about ten years. Some of those pictures bring back a few memories.

Thanks for sharing the photos. I wouldn't have guessed such bikepaths existed in Chicago. But, I do have to question the "no bike sign" on a bike path! Hope you did exceed the 20 mph speed limit.

LOL. That was Sheridan Road just south of Glencoe in Hubbard Woods. I guess I could have gotten two tickets!

Not only do we have great paths but we have bike specific lanes on all our main streets. The lanes are respected for the most part. I highly suggest any visitors here to chicago rent a bike and hit a path.

Aloha from the other end of your state. I am south of Carbondale. You know, down where we have palm trees and alligators

Thanks for the view of Chi that most people don't get to see from cars and cabs. My son lives in Oak Park and I visit infrequent. All I ever see is TRAFFIC
