Need help in posting pictures
I have read the forum guidlines about loading pictures and albums and it directs me to the control panel for setup but I don't seem to be able to set it up Please overlook my dumb as a box of rocks mentality and help a fellow cyclist out and tell me what I am missing.
I would like to share some photos of my rides with everyone.
Thanks for your help...

However, one can link to photos to show them in a thread using
Or one can upload photos less than 100k using the "advanced" reply, not the quick reply protocol.
I know, that is clear as mud!!
See "Go Advanced" below

Here's what I do:
- save pic to your hard drive.
- go to a website called www.tinypic.com.
- upload your photo; if you haven't resized your photo you can ask tinypic to size it "small" so it fits within the BF guidelines. There is a drop down menu that has all the options you need.
- copy and paste the url into your message.
That way you're not posting links to a personal photo album...

I use a free photo sharing site called photobucket.

If your picture is less than 100k you can upload it to the BF server.
Click "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the reply window. Then click "Manage Attachments". Then click "Choose File" in the new window that opened. Then click "Upload" to save the file to BF. When it uploads close that window and then click "Submit Reply".
If the picture is on another server (such as photobucket.com) simply copy the picture address. Then click the picture icon (shown below) that's at the top of the reply window and paste the url of the picture in the dialog box. Then click "OK" and then "Submit Reply" when you've entered all the text and there's your picture.

There are probably easier (smarter) ways to do this but this is what I do...
1.) I opened an account with photobucket, it's free. (there are several image sharing sites out there, photobucket is just the one I happened to pick...no particular reason, it was just convenient at the time)
2.) any photo I wish to share here I upload onto photobucket
3.) While posting on BF, I keep photbucket open on another window
4.) when I reach the point in the message where I wish to insert the pic I go to the window with photobucket and just move my cursor over the image and four options appear underneath the image
5.) left click on "Direct Link" option and a popup menu appears
6.) right click and select copy
7.) back on your Bike Forum window with the blinking cursor at the location you wish to place the image click in on the "Picture" button at the top of the message window (yellow box with the mountains)
8.) ensure that the destination box is blank, then right click and select paste
9.) select O.K
10.) your image stays on the shared sites as long as you leave it in the host website (ie. photobucket)
Don't worry, my Betty Crocker explaination makes it sound way harder that it really is.

You can use irfanview.com (free and excellent) to resize your pics. A width of 800 pixels (assuming you pic is wider that that to start) perfectly matches the width of the BFN screen. Of course, if the pic is smaller, you don't want to resize.
You can also save the jpg file at various percentages of compression. Generally, 75% or so will reduce the size of the photo file (not the photo size, itself) so it can be downloaded easily by folks who have dial-up or slow DSL service. It is a nice courtesy.

DnvrFox, thanks for this lead, I am one of those who still has dial up and sometimes I have time to get something to eat while pictures are downloading. Perhaps one of these days I will step into the 21st century and pay for high speed.
