Our recycle center has just started using ID type Access Cards, you cant dump anything unless you show it. As to scrap etc, If anything in there skips/dumpsters looks like anything of value or usefull, they'll set it aside for themself.
At our center you cant just go in and start raking around. I usually find stuff to take down and dump so I can have a nose around
Regards
Tom

We had our first summer-like day of the year (didn't break into the 80s, but I'll take the upper 70s). Took advantage of it to get out on a run to an Amish store/bakery about 6 miles from me. (Our weather is to turn rainy again on Tuesday and our temps will fall back into the 60s. It's very frustrating not having summer since the winters here can be so brutal.) The Amish also build and sell log houses. A lot of people in this area cycle. I ran into two happy shoppers who had been at the store and had baskets on the rears of their bicycle laden with goodies.

We had another beautiful day here--one more to go before the rains move in and knock our temps back down to unseasonable 60s. I took the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely bike ride. One of the stops I made was to one of the local nurseries. (I've discovered I love gardening; I never had time for it before I retired.) Everyone was out again, enjoying the weather, including a number of people on horseback. I always enjoy seeing horses.

Went to the gas station yesterday.. had to mix some 2 cycle gas for the trimmer. Today it was the trip to the library and the gym. Man that's a hard ride home after the gym!

The other day I went to the Recycling Depot again, had some yard waste, pile of batteries, BBQ canister and a paint tin.

I get amazed at what people throw out these days. There's many organizations around that takes old bikes to donate to people who could use them. Since the bins were going to be picked up the next morning, I took what I could use off the bikes. Few fairly new brake pads, and a sprung seat. The seat will be nice for my old beater.

A 10 mile round trip Utility ride for me yesterday: Collecting 15 sets of laser profile cut steel, weld on rear wheel drop outs and machined headstock tubes for Cargo Cycles, along with two massive rolls of paper towel, various bags of nylock nuts, set screws and contact washers, and not forgetting the jar of Coffee, box of tea bags, bag of sugar and 3 scotch eggs. All making up about 20 kg distrubuted around my four pannier bags.

I chased this bus for a few blocks trying to get it and a bicycle in the same frame. Then I gave up, raced ahead and leaned my own bike against a post and took this picture. I was sort of bitter when I didn't receive an email notification that I'd won a prize package, but today gifts came in the mail!
Tee shirt, hat and a soccer ball that meets Fifa specifications! A decent baseball cap can not be mailed in a padded envelope without destroying it, but this cheap hat had no crown stiffener to crush. I think it might make a decent hemet liner. (I filled it with paper to make it look good in the photo.)

It's cycle week here in the UK, and today there were free breakfasts being given to all cyclists outside of the Forum here in Norwich. So I got to drink a couple of large free coffees, meet a good few of my cyclechat forum friends (alas not Bike forums friends ) and cycle design guru: Mike Burrows.
I cycle to and from work rather than using the car; it's only 4 miles each way, but this afternoon my return home from work was accidentally over 10 miles. I wanted to call into an engineering supply company to pick up a set letter and number stamps, but I lost my cycle lock from it's stowage point and had to retrace my route only to find the lock placed on a fence post by a kind member of the public less than 400 metres from the workshop.

More grass, the bag on top is the neighbors, thought I'd empty theirs while I was at it.
Slowly getting past the learning stage of remembering to shift down lower than I normally do when I'm coming to a stop.

I certainly have changed my pace of life by retiring to a rural area west of Glacier National Park. You certainly wouldn't see this back in my former neighborhood in the D.C. suburbs. I had just finished unlocking my bike after a stop at the Amish store/bakery that's about 6 miles from my house when 2 young girls rode up on a pony.
The Amish also build and sell log homes, which they'll ship and you reassemble or, if you're close enough, they'll truck in and assemble.

Hauled a week's worth of groceries on the Ute this morning, about 7-8 miles roundtrip. At 11am, the heat index was already well above 90, and I arrived at the store drenched in sweat. Not the most fun haul, but nice to know I can make it home in these conditions. There are actually people doing a triathlon here today! Crazy.

Rush delivery of five boxes and a cylindrical package for someone on M St. SE addressed to M St. SW.
Stopped at the ball park to take a picture en route from the wrong address to the correct one.
