Bike Routes Magnolia, Woodlands, or Montgomery
Hi all,
I live up north of Tomball and am looking for some safe routes for weekend riding.
I've been doing the Zube Park routes and getting a bit bored plus looking for more of a rolling hills route.
Anyone have some routes up in this part of the woods? Distance anywhere from 30-60 miles preferably.
Also, I've been trying to locate a listing of Official city/state posted Bike Routes across this part of Texas. I'm not looking for city of Houston bike routes, but more like the ones in Waller up through College Station and/or the pine woods. I see the signs for "bike route" but there is no numbering system and everything I've found so far is city specific.

Riding anywhere in The Woodlands is a pleasant experience. It seems like the people up there welcome cyclists and are more than willing to share the road. I simple loop is over 20 miles (Woodlands Parkway past Kuykendahl, north (cannot remember the name of the road), back out Research Forest then down Six Pines or one of the other roads near the mall.

For 30-40 mile workouts, I usually stay in west side of The Woodlands; Branch Crossing/Terramont/Alden Bridge/Crownridge/Cochran's Crossing/Kuykendahl/Flintridge.
Magnolia is good for longer rides. You might want to check in with The Woodlands Cycling Club or the guys at Bikeland (https://www.bikelandusa.com/) for details on their group rides.
Feel free to drop me a PM if you need more info.

Thanks folks!
The conoco phillips and bikelane routes look good.
I have been to mapmyride but the quality of routes isn't so hot - some of the roads chosen seem to busy.
I'm especially interested in anything out of Magnolia too.
I'm pretty new to this stuff (got my bike in March) and have ridden in 4 charity rides plus ride at least once on the weekend. Over 600 miles on it this year, and 12 pounds lost (started at 230 pounds)
I'm not much of a bike-club guy; me and a buddy usually ride out of Zube but it's a bit too far for any solo rides or riding with my son.
Has anyone ridden on the fishcreek thoroughfare? It looks like one could set up a nice ride up 2978, up fish creek and on to 105 or so.

Are some of you on crack?
Does anyone ride 1488 @149?
I tried to do this route Sunday evening after my son decided that he didn't want to ride too far on Sunday Morning
https://www.northwestcyclingclub.com/...s/Magnolia.pdf
I tried to ride out there this weekend... I've been on 1488 before and don't really like it. the shoulder is wide enough but the road has some evil bumps, especially around the bridges. And cars still ride ride up to the line on the shoulder...
However I turned up 149 based on some of the routes, and holy crap I could see my life flashing before my eyes...There was no shoulder at all, and every jim-bob with a dually and a boat were flying by. I turned around at the first opportunity and flew back to 1488 where it was 'safe'.
Should I avoid this altogether and just start at 105 and 149 area?
I was thinking about parking at the Kroger at Honea-Egypt and 1488, then riding fish creek north to 2854 and 105, over to 1486, then back to the Kroger via 1488.
Does that seem sane?
Or should I just venture further out?
BTW, I've been riding the Zube park routes, and really like them but just getting bored. I'm looking for something with similar traffic patterns.
(I was also thinking about something down Nichols-Sawmill out of Magnolia, out to 362 area ... Has anyone ridden out there?)

Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment. That's the ride I put on for the city of Houston 5 years ago when I was captain on the Continental Airlines Cycling Team.
I still ride up there and very often that same route 2 to 3 times a week. There's not a better place around Houston to ride.

If you want to ride on the North side with some hilly terrain around the FM-149 area the only place to go is Montgomery. I usually park at the high school or Cedar Brake park off of FM-105 and head North to Richard’s and Anderson. If you leave early in the morning like I do the routes have very light traffic. Also most dirvers up there are use to cyclists so it's a rare occasion when I find an irrate driver.
Bottom line, if you enjoy a scenic challenging ride through the National Forest and country roads you need to stay North of FM-105. It’s a great place to ride.
