Giant TCR Aero Shimano ultegra problems!
Hi I have just switched my compact to a triple and replaced the front mech for an ultegra triple. However the mech bracket on the frame doesnt give decent clearance even at the topmost setting. The bottom of the mech either hits the the middle ring or moving to the outer gears causes huge noise or just wont change...Is there a special giant bracket or a different ultegra triple mech or a special secret?? I almost ended up sanding the bottom of the front mech but that would invalidate the warranty...
Help I have a 190km mountain race in Wales in 2 weeks???!!!

What chainrings are you using? The Ultegra 6603 triple FD was designed to work specifically with 52/39/30 chainrings. It will not work with a 52/42/30. I tried myself and failed. However, I was able to get a 105 5603 FD to work as it's designed for 50/39/30 rings. I am at the max clearance for the big ring but it shifts perfectly. Ideally, I'd have a 53/42/30 though as it would allow for a smalle gap at the big ring while increasing the clearance at the middle ring (currently at about 1mm).

The cage width is smaller on the 10 speed versus the 9 speed derailler. You may get a lot of chain rub because of that. Since you are using a 9 speed chain, you might as well use a 9 speed derailler which are much cheaper. You have two options for 9 speed deraillers. The best would be to head to Ebay and find a 6503 (Ultegra) or 5503 (105) front derailler. Either of those will work perfectly with your chosen chainrings.
If you don't want to use Ebay, you can get Tiagra 4503 9 speed triple front deraillers from many different sources. However, I haven't used one and can't comment on how well it will clear the 42 tooth middle ring. It's designed for a 50/39/30 crankset just like the 5603 FD so worst case it will work but you'll have more than optimal clearance for the big ring like my setup. If you do go with this derailler, I'd like to hear about how it worked out.
[edit] This will work perfectly if you can wait for it to return to stock. The price is right too.

Shimano 9-speed triple front derailleurs were designed to run with 52-42-30 chainrings (with the exception of Dura-Ace which were 53-39-30).
Another option is to grind or file the slot in the hanger upward. I used a Dremel tool to grind the slot lower on my wife's 9-speed Ultegra. If you try this be very careful, the metal is soft and grinds FAST.
