Worn Rims
Hi,
My rims have started wear and change color. It looks like deep grooves but they aren't. Is there a surface coating or something that has worn off? They are Mavic T138.

It shouldn't be too surprising that rubbing black rubber on metal will make the metal just a little darker as the light reflection surfaces change and the rubber gets entrained into tiny voids in the substrate.

The brake pads are probably too hard. Replace with soft pads, I'd try KoolStop salmon (or black) brake pads.
