I thought the quality of the surface was too high for a road. It's painted to look like a road, and may be used as one, but I was wondering if it might be intended as an emergency runway.

Just a shot from our ride today. Pretty much the whole day was open farmlands. This was just the only picture I took.

Icyclist here - thanks to Tulex, my photo of an open road started this thread, more than two years ago.
Here's another photograph I made a couple of weeks ago, in Yosemite, as I looped around Yosemite Valley on my bike.

A few more from France
Dutch corner - Alpe D'Huez. Rare to get a shot of this road without other traffic. That it was 39 degrees celcius that afternoon may have had something to do with it... It was my first day in France so I wanted to open the ledger; should have waited till the cool of the next morning.
Looking back at the last kilometres of the Col de Sarenne (one of the three ways to ride to the Alpe D'Huez ski resort)

Loop in the Vercors - just west of Grenoble
Start of the road to Presles
Near the top of the climb
Descended off the plateau and then rode back up via the Gorges du Nan. Looking back at the valley from where I'd come...
Looking further up the Gorges du Nan.
