Another goal met!!
I like to try and do one sub 5 hr 100 miler each year and accomplished that today. In fact, I actually set a new PR for a 100 miler by finishing in 4hr 45 mins. I think my best time prior to that was 4hr 50 mins.
It was a pretty flat route as it only had 4400 ft of climbing. The lack of climbing was a real blessing from the previous 5 centuries I've done over the last 5 weeks-ranging from 7000-11,000 ft of climbing.
I rode the Prince and it was incredibly terrific. Between the bike and the nice group I was with I just kept thinking that it can't get any better than this!!
The ride had 800+ riders with 3 different routes. After 10-15 miles we had about 30 in our front group. That dropped to about 20 at the 30 mile mark when 10 riders turned to do the shorter route. That group stayed together for most of the rest of the ride but riders dropped off every now and then. I managed to stay with the 15 that remained until 75 miles when I starting cramping like crazy-just lack of hydration from trying to do the entire ride without stopping by nursing fluids.......just totally stupid!! I even carried an extra bottle in my jersey so I can't figure out what I was thinking.
So I did the last 25 miles solo-with various folks riding my wheel from time to time-those folks were just doing the 60 miler. I sure wish I could have stayed with the front group the remainder of the ride as they finished in 4hr 28 mins.
And then on the way home I stopped and played 18 holes of golf and had 5 birdies!! I guess I need to just do more 100 milers before playing golf???
The bed is gonna feel pretty darn good in just a bit!

Try the seagull century in early october - at your current speed you could probably hit close to if not 4 hours. I doubt that ride has 400' of climb let alone 4000'. There are thousands of riders. Last year I was in a pace line that held 25mph for 30 miles before I stopped for water and they just kept on rolling.

Yep. I was a little slower than you. Neal and I cruised the ride today, well that's about all I could do actually. Neal was kind enough to hang back. You seem to be in peak form right now. I did get 170 miles in over the last two days. I really needed the miles.

A PR is good no matter how you achieved it. I would have to carry 4 bottles, including one with Perpetuem, plus electrolytes and a full flask of gel to be able to ride that long without stopping for fluids.

Great job and result. You need a team car and a domestique to bring water bottles and food to the front. And remember the peloton leader gets to determine the bio breaks.
When I raced the Madera stage race, we did the 50 miles in 2:15 but it was a loop so we could toss our water bottles and get two new ones every 16 miles. Riding the 50 miles fast was no big deal but it would have been brutal without proper hydration and nutrition.
I love the golf story after the 100 mile ride. 50 years old is the new 20. I used to play a lot of tennis. At that time, I was also running and competing in 10k races. I found that after a run, I played better tennis. One would have thought that being tired would affect the tennis game but it seemed to improve my focus. I think that aerobic exercise preceding a finesse sport may help. This assumes your fitness can accommodate both activities. If you tell me you walked and carried your clubs after the century, I will really be impressed. However, you high lighted the 5 birdies but what about the bogeys, doubles and triples. I suspect there may have been a couple.

My fitness is improving-mostly the endurance piece. I need a lot of work doing intervals to improve power and the TT times. We'll see how much motivation there is!

I figured I earned the right to use a golf cart so I took full advantage of it. I shot 1 over par-included 4 bogeys (several missed shorter putts) plus 1 double bogey. Course was 6500 yards-which is a good length for me. I was surprised at how solidly I hit the ball-using your legs must be overrated!
I'm pretty sore today-but it feels good to know the body is still functioning!
